On Fifty Shades of Grey

BEING a worldwide phenomenon is not easy to achieve. It requires a lot of passion, determination, hardwork, and maybe, a little bit of luck. The Fifty Shades Trilogy happened to have all of those elements I mentioned. It started as a Twilight fanfiction written by E. L. James and then she transformed it into Fifty Shades. The story tackles a sensitive topic that is not often discussed on erotic novels. Most people are not familiar with BDSM prior to reading the book, myself included. BDSM is an erotic practice which involves bondage, discipline, dominance, submission and sadomasochism. It's all about inflicting physical pain while having sex. It tries to prove and persuade people that there is pleasure in pain.

Going back to the bestselling and blockbuster hit Fifty Shades, it follows the story of Anastasia Steele, a simple and innocent college student who met the powerful and mysterious CEO named Christian Grey. It all started when she had to interview him on behalf of her bestfriend who was currently sick. There was an instant attraction on their first meeting. There was a sexual tension that they both can't deny, and well, maybe resist. She immediately caught his attention which made him give her an offer that will change her entire life.

Christian Grey asked her to be his submissive. It was a hard role to do since it required a lot of submission to her dominant especially on bed. There was a contract presented to her which apparently shocked her. What they both didn't expect was how their sexual attraction suddenly turned into love. But Christian's dark past will hinder them from being happy with each other.

On the second installation, Fifty Shades Darker, the two started to get serious with their relationship. Passionate sex was finally replaced with romantic lovemaking much to the delight of fans. But a few people threatened to break the relationship they're trying to build including a former submissive of Christian who's still obsessed over him, Mrs. Robinson, the woman who made Christian her submissive when he was younger, and lastly, Jack Hyde, the mysterious boss of Anastasia who has wicked plans for them. Fortunately, they were able to resolve the issues and withstand the challenges. The movie ended with Christian Grey's marriage proposal for Anastasia, leaving the audience wanting for more.

The trilogy concluded via Fifty Shades Freed which tackled the life of Mr. and Mrs. Grey as a married couple. Although they're living a luxurious life, it showed that they were just normal people having regular marital problems. But the most complicated conflict was Jack Hyde's evil plans. Anastasia's former boss turned out to be a jealous person towards Christian's success. He even resulted to kidnapping Anastasia which risked her pregnancy. The 3rd installation was literally action-packed with car chasing scenes and fightscenes here and there. Despite these obstacles, the two managed to stand firm and remained strong until they finally survived everything. Fifty Shades Freed gave a happy and satisfying finale to this addictive trilogy which shocked the whole world.

Fifty Shades, despite the issues, negative criticisms and misjudgements, is definitely a game-changer in terms of erotic novels. It started a new trend and will definitely be remembered throughout the years.
