MARVEL RUMORS: Did Loki Fail?
Hey, Everyone! And welcome to another MARVEL RUMORS blog post on STEEMIT!
This post is going to look into how the God of Mischief faked his death, managed to overthrow his father Odin, became ruler of Asgard, and somehow lost the throne he stole at the end of "Thor: The Dark World".
From the trailers of the upcoming 'Ragnarok' sequel, we see Loki fighting along side his brother in a team with other members like Hulk and Valkyrie (FINALLY!), but how did Loki get here? Last we saw the fan favorite MCU villain, he seemed perfectly pleased with himself sitting at the throne of Asgard taking the form of his father, Odin. At the end of 'The Dark World' the audience is left in a cliffhanger only Marvel can deliver and kept in a mysterious uncertainty of where the franchise could go next? The post-credit scene left us asking questions like, where is Odin?
Loki is a man of many trades and tricks, so I'm sure he got himself into a situation that lead him being chained up, as we see in the 'Ragnarok' trailer. But still, How did Loki go into rule under the All Father Odin disguise and then lose it all? Some speculation leads to the comic story arc of "Thor & Loki: Blood Brothers". Within that comic miniseries, Thor and Loki are of old age. Loki has captured his brother, taken over the throne, and Thor is imprisoned and left to rot among the dungeons of Asgard. Loki torments his brother about their past and his superiority, but still never feels like the stronger brother.
Through a visit from Hela (The goddess of death), Loki is challenged to prove his superiority to her and the people of Asgard. Loki is convinced he must execute his brother in the public eye within 24 hours. The announcement is made and through the series, it almost plays like "A Christmas Carol", where Loki's past, present and future are coming straight for him through nightmarish memories and conflicting visits through people he once called friends. If Loki does not go through with the execution, then Hela will take over the throne.
This story arc is really serious and deep. Dealing with the inner failures of Loki's past. I suggest checking out "Thor & Loki: Blood Brothers". The comic miniseries was even turned it into a stellar motion comic released under the Marvel Knights Animation name and published by SHOUT! Factory.
Did Loki finally have what he wanted, only to have Hela come and take it away? Probably, but why?
Through a post-credit scene we saw at the end of 2016's "Doctor Strange", we saw Thor sitting with the Sorcerer Supreme requesting his assistance in finding Odin and what is to be done about his brother, Loki (Not again). What we don't know is if this particular scene takes place before, or after 'Ragnarok'. It's hard to say since we don't know if Odin will be found, or if Loki got away into shenanigans again during the upcoming sequel. I think it takes place before, but how would Thor know if his father is missing yet without returning to Asgard? The MCU is getting a little confusing on timelines lately. Let's hope for some clarification.
From the 'Ragnarok' trailers, it looks like a mix of two different Marvel Comics storylines being intertwined together. I'm getting a lot of 'Planet Hulk' along with 'Thor & Loki'. You can tell there are several situations going on and I hope they do a good job telling a cohesive story.
How do you think Loki lost the throne? Where do you think Odin is? What tricks lie up Loki's sleeve?
