Society does not change well as technology advances day by day. Even though there are a growing number of people who demand change, society does not fully accept it. Even those who warn of the need for change do not want to change the environment around them. Even if we do not look at it from an ideological point of view, we all want to stay in the same place and find stability. Historically, the younger generation was mainly the driving force of the changing times. The younger than the older has always led the change. But why are real behaviors taking place for change at an exceptionally young age? That's because they don't have much. In other words, because there is nothing to lose, every human being instinctively tries to keep it when they have property. And to keep its property safe, changes in the environment surrounding it must be minimized. So the reason that young people, in other words, have been active as the agents of change is because they don't have it and at the same time bring social power to themselves.
In this larger frame, the revolt raised by tail compartment's leader Curtis can be seen as a collective move to change the power structure in the train. For those who did not have it, those who had it had a fierce battle to protect it. It is often said that the purpose of a company is to create profits. But in fact, the higher purpose than that is the persistence of business. A significant increase in profit generation will have a direct impact on the sustainability of the company, but if the company has to close its doors next year, everything will be useless. It is not just businesses. The state, and any other organization, actually has the highest aim of being persistent.
As Mason said, if the people in the tail had stayed in place, they would have at least apparently shaped themselves without any conflict. A train is for the stability of the entire organization. But this is strictly the logic of the front, and it is only a justification for their mistakes. Those who had to eat protein made from cockroaches and live in cramped rooms were forced to make collective moves in order to survive.
Bong Joon-ho is a director who is in that sense aware of the society's physiology. He knew exactly what kind of human anguish Curtis would be when he reached the right end. Here is an easy example. Private men who survive all kinds of absurdities often pledge to eradicate bad habits when they become seniors. However, as most soldiers do, such practice can not be completely eliminated even when it becomes a senior. Rather, the same pattern is often repeated. I wonder why. There are many reasons, but the situation has changed and the environment has adapted according to the circumstances.
Curtis could not resist temptation if security architect Namgoong Minsu and his daughter Jonah had not moved to blow up the train's door to the outside world. And as seats would make people, Curtis would have killed people or allowed a certain amount of rebellion in the name of controlling the population on the train. Of course, society has changed to this level, even with a few people who have kept their original intentions, but since humans are animals that adapt to a given environment, the need for change is short-lived. Director Bong criticized this.
The film suggests leaving his organization as the answer. We can see hope if we leave the organization. " But is it really the only good answer sheet to leave? I don't think so at all. Even if the temperature was small enough for the polar bear to live, the severe cold remained near minus tens of degrees Celsius. It is only one way to leave a letter of resignation for a troubled company, but in the movie, it seems to be the only way, which is somewhat regrettable.
The movie was a bit difficult. As the movie had a difficult subject matter, it was not enough to fully understand the movie. It was definitely only for director Bong Joon-ho. He has always freely crossed between commercial and artistic films, sending a heavy message to our society. And it was very significant. That's why his movies were always bright and worth the money.
