10 Curiosities of Moana
The story originated 2000 years ago in the ancient South Pacific. Moana is the princess of the Hawaiian island of Maui and the fifth princess in the history of Disney (after Mulan, Jasmine, Pocahontas, and Tiana) that is disconnected from the traditional princess of European court.
Actress Auli'i Cravalho, a native Hawaiian student who was chosen to lend her voice to "Moana". Auli'i is the youngest princess in Disney's history at only 15 years old.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is the voice of Maui, a demigod of Polynesian mythology who accompanies Moana throughout history. This is Johnson's second animated film that also put his voice on Planet 51.
Moana becomes the first film of directors Ron Clements and John Musker completely made by computer animation.
The sea has a fundamental role in history as everything takes place in it. Moana has a very special relationship with the sea throughout the film. In one of the most thrilling scenes of the film, Moana literally talks to the sea, which makes the audience thrill.
The directors of the film will appear on screen, not literally but artistically. The characters of Pua Pig and Hei Hei Rooster were designed with the characteristics of the directors Ron Clements and John Musker.
The filmmakers invited a group of Polynesian dance choreographers to the studio to show the dance moves to the animators. The artists observed, sketched and learned the meaning of each movement to do their work.
The Maui hook is inspired by the constellation Scorpion that in Oceania is called just like the character. In addition, a team of astronomers helped the filmmakers rebuild the starry sky of the Pacific Islands as it looked 2,000 years ago.
The video features a soundtrack by composer Mark Mancina (Land of Bears), and original songs written by New Zealand singer-songwriter Opetaia Foa'i and American playwright and singer Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator of the award-winning Broadway Hamilton.
The film was nominated for two Golden Globes for the most animated film and the most original song.
