junkyard finds. 50 dollhairs a piece
about a month ago i came across a 2002 zx600r(yellow) and a 2004 zx636b(green). managed to get them both dirt cheap before they were sent to the crushers.
simply because im insane and dirt poor im going to restore them as best i can. so here is the rundown.
2004 zx636b
no visible damage to the frame other than scratches. whoever "maintained" it in the past must have been a moron. it had several sheet metal screws holding the ram air intake into the frame. another screw shoved into the the stator cover that is also visible damaged and has been jb welded. this will require thread repair and a new cover at best. at worst a new case half. to make things worse i know they pulled the engine at some point because it had some random soft low grade bolts for engine mounts that didnt even fit the machine.
ive been hard at work and have already pulled the engine. i dont trust whoever worked on this one and want to do a complete inspection. but i dont know if that is practical. its a miracle the engine actually turns. ill test the compression and go from there when i get a working battery.
2002 zx600r
this one is bad. im surprised i didnt notice how badly the frame was bent. i didnt notice until i hit a roadblock in my teardown and couldnt get the stick coil out of cylinder 1 because the frame was bent over on top of it. stopped all work immediately and went to the drawing board. ive decided to see if i can get an engine stand rigged up and testing it outside the bike and go from there. might put it into a go kart or get a cheap frame of ebay. this bike is not priority
what do you all think. am i crazy? would anyone like to see updates and progress over time? i cant afford to buy anything new or used. this seems like a good way to build up my tool chest. i went to school for this stuff so it doesnt scare me at all. the biggest road block is money but 50-100 bucks a week adds up.
oh and here is my current bike a 2012 honda cbr250r. i have not treated this one well over time and will be repairing it as well. but all it needs is simple fairing repair and resprays.
