Great news for Simpson!
It's been a rough few years for Simpson since he moved up to the premier MXGP 450 Class and he was looking to have a good start to his 2018 season after suffering a few setbacks in 2017.
He was riding well during qualifying and in the first moto and everything was going to plan. Then a crash in at the start of the second moto turned his day around and he was forced to drop out. The crash, which was a collision with Jose Butron, was right at the start of the race and the medical team were not taking any chances and took him off for further evaluation.

"The next thing you know, me and Jose Butron crashed together and I really hurt my shoulder. It was a medical centre trip. I thought I had done something or broken my shoulder blade or whatever it is, but it looks okay at the moment. I had to go for stitches in my elbow, because there is a big flap of skin hanging off. Other than that it could have been a lot worse, but it could have been a lot better."
Things like this, unfortunately, are part and parcel of professional motocross but it's always good to see the rider emerge with less injuries than first believed. Thankfully that is the case here and following another assessment today there was more to be grateful for.
"Got the results of the CT scan. No major damage, see you in Portugal.
As per the supercross in the USA it seems the next MXGP race in Agueda will be a mudder. If Simpson can get patched up and back in action before then it could be a great chance to turn his season around and get back in the thick of the points!
Good luck mate and glad it's not as bad as feared :)
