Reality Check! - Why are you Alive?

I don’t mean to startle you, probably I should rephrase the question, “What are you doing on earth” What is your purpose in life? What will you be remembered for once you leave this world for the great unknown? What is your mission and vision at the current place you are in life?

We ought to ask ourselves these tough questions from time to time, in order to access our position in life, and understand our current placement as well, is it is really worth our time and effort. Because at the end of the day, our lives are being measured with our age and at certain points in our life, we are expected to have made certain accomplishments. I believe that is why the duration someone's life in this world is called one's ‘lifetime’.

In this post, we will talk about our mission and vision in life, and what we hope to achieve in life, and the legacy we hope to leave behind when we are gone.

Why are We Here?

We are human beings and part of that means we possess limited information about how we came to this world, and what lies ahead once we die. Several religious beliefs have tried to explain the origin of life by the supernatural creation carried out by a God, while science argues that the world came from nothing, and the only true God is energy because it can be explained, qualified and felt. But one thing is for sure, no one really knows what is going on, but we do know something - That we are alive, and have been presented with the gift of life.

Now, that we are aware of the life that we have, the next question is what to do with this gift of life that we have. Societies are run on a certain system, built on the basic need to survive and reproduce, and the premise of our lives as humans revolve around these items. Hence, the need to marry and reproduce, the need for education to get good jobs and live a life of comfort - survive.

Mission and Vision

Why are you doing what you are doing?

Are you doing it just to survive? Or it is part of a grand plan. Over the course of history, certain men have made tremendous discoveries that have made their names echo throughout history. Most of these men made tremendous sacrifices to be able to achieve the feat because things were never this good when compared with the past. Most of the men that made several inventions had to fight steep battles just because of their ideas and their beliefs. They believe they had a vision and mission for the future, and the world we live in today was birthed by those heroes of the past.

Ideals are peaceful, but history is violent

What are your mission and vision? What do you want to achieve in life? What is your plan for achieving the results you desire? It is time to state what you hope to achieve by keeping your job or running your business. As a student what is your plan once you get out of school, what do you plan to do with your degree?

We have to start asking ourselves these tough questions if we desire to do something remarkable with our lives.
