Be a King without a kingdom
BE A KING WITHOUT A KINGDOM
You have to be the leader in your little space. Be the leader without title. So, when the title comes, you fit in perfectly. You are wrong to wait for the crown before you begin to display those awesome qualities in you.
Most young people desire to be elected or appointed into a public/corporate leadership positions. But waiting is a bad thing.
The renaissance era maverick, Niccolo Machiavelli, in his book The Prince, taught the secrets that make princes to either lose or keep their positions. He said that those who come into leadership position suddenly either by fortune or personal craft also quickly lose that position.
Machiavelli said that the new princes (leaders) must have drilled themselves in statecraft while still a private citizen, else his position is soon taken away.
Citing Hiero of Syracuse as an example of the few new princes who succeeded in staying long in power, Machiavelli said, "he possessed such remarkable ability that even as a private person it was said of him that he lacked nothing but a kingdom to be a king".
Be a king without a kingdom so that when the kingdom comes, you will be a king of remarkable abilities.
