Very interesting post! As an academic, I find that the most important part of any project is being able to imagine different scenarios and research questions. An additional use of imagination is the very old technique that uses imagined buildings, for example, to help memorization of various items (the "mind palace" method created by the Greek poet Simonides of Ceos).
