It is very obvious to note that most individuals of this present society all wants to lead or be called a leader, or to serve in capacities where they will be worshiped as a ruler. In fact leadership and ruler-ship are two distinct words apart but since the both words connote and associates with someone literally at the helm of affairs then you can agree with me that people generally want to be in charge in any place they found themselves. This article generally does not focus on leadership or ruler-ship instead it is being made intrinsically obvious to shine the light at the process at which one undergoes in order to become a leader and by this I mean SERVANTHOOD.
Servanthood is a crucible where leaders are refined. One may wonder why the life of a servant should be important towards producing good leaders capable of bringing a positive change to our society, this is because Servant as stated by the Wikipedia which means ‘one who serves another, providing help in some manner’ has clearly explained the reason why they say 'a leader is a servant'. This could be traced to the characteristics of servants which made it so similar to a leader, as there is a thin line between being a leader and a servant.
What our present society need is a person with the spirit of servanthood, the kind of spirit which totally brings people down to earth, which subdues our pride and which makes us care less about positions. A servant need not introduce themselves rather their impact does, it keeps them loyal and committed, and remained unjudged until beneficiaries of their work or loyalty speaks up for them. A servant is an accounting caretaker, a waiter, a leader, one who does not make noise, and a keeper. Servants are made to pass through rigorous process because the position to which they are expected to be needs them to be refined properly, David the son of Jesse, being the last son in the family is expected to be pampered and catered for if it’s in our present society but the Bible clearly pictured him as a shepherd who keeps his father’s sheep, one who serves every other member of the family and at that when it was time to anoint the next king, it was neither the most senior nor the most handsome but clearly it was about the one whom had really served well.
Servanthood has truly proven to be the reformation process from which leaders are raised, and one cannot declare himself ready to lead or rule until he is being called by God. It is only the supernatural and omnipotent inside us and within us that can issue us the certificate of servanthood in order to be declared as a leader, this is synonymous with the story of theIsrealite who was drawn out of water sometime in the land of Egypt. Moses grew to realized that his people were suffering and with that knowledge had intervened when he saw an Egyptian mistreating a fellow Isrealite, he ended up killing the Egyptian and by so doing had thought he had arrived and is ready to liberate his people from bondage but his expectations were cut short when he encountered two Isrealites arguing and there in his manner of intervening was posed with the question of who actually made him a ruler over man. It wasn’t the fact that he cared and was protective of his people, it was because God has not found him eligible to fill in that position to which he has exalted himself and therefore it was prickling to his conscience mind that he cannot be fit to be a leader if God do not authenticate and certified him as a servant and at that he fled to pass through the process of servanthood in the house of Jethro until God called him back to the position during the miracle of the Burning Bush.
Our present society cannot initiate the positive change it needs if our leaders do not possess the spirit of servanthood, the attributes that comes with this kind of spirit makes one eligible to lead other people. These attributes includes humility, loyalty, commitment, selfless service to humanity, dedication to work, accountability, transparency and a lot others.
In conclusion, we should endeavor to subject ourselves to servanthood so as to be rigorously transformed both in mind, soul and body, one who has not grieved before should not tell the bereaved not to cry because that emotional act is a process that is needed to happen for we to become strong and better. With the spirit of servanthood inside us, we can expect a lot more changes and success in our todays society as it is a mindset we expect to teach the younger generation in order to produce efficient and effective leaders in the society.
