The Role of an ideal youth in the Family

There are as many definitions of youth as there are many scholars. I may simply define a youth as a matured stage of a child. The period between childhood and adulthood; the most beautiful and handsome stage of human life on earth, and the most pleasurable period of man. Before anyone becomes a youth, he or she was once cared for by either the parents or other guardians. This is done to equip the child for future purpose.

An ideal youth has a role to play in the family which includes:

Helping in the family

All parents wish after playing their own part and taking responsibility in raising their children is for the children to also take the responsibility of helping in the family from them. There is no good parent who would wish to see their children become wayward, useless, or unable to render any help to the family. Such children are source of grief and sorrows to the parents, but every wise son gladdens the heart of the parents prov. 15:20.

There are many obligatory responsibilities expected of a youth in the family, which may or may not be done or accomplished without them. Trying to outline them here may not seem appropriate because of diversity in families needs of each child's services at a particular time and place. But in essence, whatever that is good and is worth doing in the family which is your duty, please do not exempt yourself, else it will to be recorded as a sin against you James 4:17.

Taking care of the parents

A lot of parents are in a state of weeping and gnashing of teeth after they might have starved themselves of luxuries in order to make sure that their children will become productive in the future. But only to be abandoned by the children when they had made it in life, and when the parents are in dire need of them. It is one of the greatest fears of many parents.

It should be noted that raising children is like planting a fruit yielding tree with the hope of eating from it. It is a shame for any young man or woman who is stable and in a position to take care of the parents but refuses as this was the same incident which prompted Jesus to curse that fig tree, and ye know how after about a day it died.

This is one of the secret of some young men rising from grass to grace while others falling from grace to grass, because the physical life is control in the spiritual which already there are some laid down rules that covers each activity of life. Some parents who are lucky to have ideal children are already in their haven. Some may think that they are more or less competent to help in the family or take care of the parents, but there is no one who cannot function in one way or the other, or at a particular thing.
