Believe it or not, you can do anything you are willing to...
I know that sometimes we think that challenges that we set are ourselves are so high that seem impossible to overcome. But actually, we tend to think about that because we are always looking for the short-term. I have a great friend who came from a very poor family in Italy who discovered a way to make money by selling royalties, that many people who tried it got great results from it. He finally decided that he wanted to give a try, at least to see if there was any chance from earning money other way than getting a bachelor's degree or working as an intern at first at any big company. He started with so little money, that he had to invest every single euro he had in order to make this business run. He couldn't even go out and buy a coffee because he was so obsessed with the chance of making a living that way that he took the risk to do so. I know it may sound like a Hollywood film, but I can promise you that it is 1000% real. Because reality is not fantasy, his idea or new side-hustle didn't bring him any benefits until 2 YEARS PASSED. 2 YEARS? Yes, two years of commitment, for everyday giving his very best to obtain any kind of profit. He told me that this whole venture was really hard, long, he had to be patient enough to not give up even though anyone was showing up to tell him that everything was going to work out. Now, he moved from Italy to Spain to pay less taxes, he earns as much money as someone who is working full-time in a job for 20 years, with just a 2 YEAR INVESTMENT. Are you willing to just try it not for anybody else but for yourself? I think sometimes we live so wasted to think that it is better to work for someone else instead of trying what you want by yourself, as that is less risky and we need to have some stability in our lives.
What kind of stability are you talking about? With COVID-19 we have seen a huge amount of people losing their jobs because of the pandemic, and you still call it safe bet? If you have bigger responsibilities than just yourself to maintain as family, friends, or whoever else, you can try to go smaller at first, BUT PLEASE, TRY. Most people stay in the same place for years not because they were not good enough but because their fears were way higher than their goodwill.
This friend of mine, when I asked him which kind of advice could he tell me when trying something that I was scared about, he gave me the 3 following tips:
- If you want to do something, first learn how to do it, and then act to learn even more, but you need a minimum or basic knowledge to understand what are you going to do, and how are you going to do it.
- To be successful at anything, it doesn't really matter what it is, you just need to work really hard for it, and stay patiend and committed. You will be surprised about how far you can go.
- Big dreams sometime require big sacrifices. Establish your priorities correctly in order to put always what you want first, and what others want from you when you become available.
Life is too short to invest 25 years or more to work for others, with actually any big rewards at all. Risks are worth-taken specially when you feel not ready, but concious and willing to give your best on a daily basis. Keep dreaming...
Cheers,
Feli
