THE DEMANDS AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR MENTORSHIP

Mentorship is indispensable because it's an instrument for growing leadership. it is also the pathway of transition from one generation to another. When mentorship is lacking, a generation goes into extinction.

A MENTOR according toOxford Learners Dictionary “Is an experienced person who advises and helps somebody with less experience a period of time”.

A mentor is a wise teacher or a counselor with care, with willingness, with commitment to take somebody under him/her and bring him/her to where he/she is and even beyond.

Mentorship is not an easy task; huge moral demands and great responsibilities are attached to it.
For you to be a fulfilled protégée, life will place a high demand on you.

But two foundations makes for a perfect mentoring and should be kept in mind:

• In order for you to be fulfilled, you must be ready to play your part.

• You must also understand that mentorship is not by proximity, it is by heart.

Your mentor must not necessarily be within your physical reach but much more around the environment of your heart. A lot of people are going about without mentor because there’s a problem with their heart.

Selecting A Mentor:

There are various ways you can select a mentor. Several factors are also to be considered before making this clarion call responsibility. I will however share three (3) major ways for the purpose of this article:

• Don’t Select A Mentor because of What He/She Has but Because of Who He/She is:

The reason you don’t need to focus on what Your mentor has is that, what He/She has might finish but who He/She is will help to make you what you want. Therefore, judging mentorship with mere physical eyes can be tricky and confusing. You need your unbiased mind and your inner eyes to think you through what you really need in order to be successful in your chosen endeavour. This will aid better choice.

• You must consider the value system of that person;

You need to consider those things that make Him/Her Tick. You also need to know where his focus, attention and priorities lie.
You really need these because, there is no way two people can walk together if there’s no agreement between them. You need to choose someone who you really know is heading to the same direction that you are heading to.

• You must be sure he/she has what you aspire to have.

This is important before you choose a mentor. You must know what you want. You must also be focused and clear enough to foresee your destination in life. Knowing all these about yourself will help you to choose someone a like-mind that will mentor and weather you through the rough roads to achieve success.

The greatest tragedy and affliction is neither sickness nor poverty but lack of bearing or direction about successful livelihood.

If really you are heading your way to the top of your destiny,a mentor is paramount as you journey on, infact the best time to get one is now. You must have somebody that you are consciously and committedly looking up to.

You must have a picture of your future so as to feature the person who has gone ahead of you, because, it is only somebody who knows the way that can lead the way.
