Wake up!
The alarm sounds. It's 6 a.m., the hour AND the band! I bound out of bed, slowly - as my body doesn't move quickly. So begins my day.
Shower with music or podcast. Meditation in silence (kids are usually still sleeping!). Read for 15-20 minutes. Review what needs accomplished within 5 minutes.
This is my daily routine - every morning - with one exception. My body has become accustomed to waking that it wakes up 2 minutes before my alarm. Every day.
The importance of routines and habits are well documented. In the morning, when many people have trouble getting up and going, these routines help you create the day you want. By starting my day with blood pumping music and inspirational podcasts I create a mind space that is ready to challenge the world. Meditation allows me to focus my energy and mind set on the present moment. Reading increases my knowledge base (see my previous post as to why I read in the morning). Reviewing my day brings to the front of my mind what accomplishments I will aim for today.
On days that my routine is broken, I feel it. My motivation is different. My energy is different. On those days I make sure to perform whichever action was missed as soon as possible.
Here's the thing: my routine is unique to me. Your routine should be unique to you. A friend who I discussed this routine with gets up and has a 15 minute dance party every morning. Another focuses their reading on the Bible and instead of meditation, prays. The key is to drive the principles.
- Get blood flowing and moving - exercise, dancing, hot shower, etc.
- Center your spirit - meditation, yoga, prayer, etc.
- Learn - books, podcasts, videos, etc.
- Prepare for the day - to do list, task list, goal list, etc.
Accomplishing these four steps will start your day on the best possible footing, allowing you to BE GREAT, everyday!
I love your daily routine ! I try to do simalar but insomnia is getting the way! Wish i woke up before my alarm :-(
Thanks! It takes discipline. There are times that insomnia interferes. On those days. I do as much of the routine as possible and back fill as best I can!
