I went and saw Steve Gunn, famous from the solo act Steve Gunn, and also from the touring band entitled, Steve Gunn and the Outsiders. Well, I guess famous would not be totally appropriate, because dude isn’t exactly gonna be seen on the grocery store magazine rack any time soon or perezhilton.com or or even gawker.com yeah, that’s how unpopular he is, even shitty ass gawker won’t do stories on him. I mean the place was still pretty crowded, but the place wasn’t that big. A guy with the talent that Gunn (34, born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, married with 3 kids) possesses and shares should be a household name..and not that I would wish it on him, but he is indeed talented enough to warrant the fame that would allow him to be perezhilton.com newsworthy. And this is coming from not a long time fan. Not even a very good fan. A fan that does not really know much about the man- as evidenced in the parenthesis part above- of which was totally made up because I did not know and wanted to prove my point of just how non-fan-committed to this artist I am- which will hopefully give a pint of credibility to the gushing that ensues…..
Steve Gunn was so friggin good. He and his band and their playing and their songs have my heart forever. Best performance ever…(that took place on July 13th,, 2016)..(that happened to take place in West Asheville)- EVER (on that date, in West Asheville).
Drums, bass, Gunn on guitar (electric and acoustic) and another guitarist (electric, steel pedal) built compositions that felt for real and yet dream like. Powerful and yet fragile. The guitars built strong layers with hints of twang. The voice was present - intense- forward. Determined, his voice painted words amongst the dreamlike guitar structures being built up towards the sky. Guitars climbing with class, melting together to reach new heights. It was just beautiful. Would repeat.
