Moshe Strugano Defines Why Males with Sedentary Lifestyle Prefer High-Fat Meals
A recently conducted study has revealed that males with an inactive lifestyle chose foods with high fat content as compared to their slimmer counterparts. The results conveyed by the Missouri University located in Columbia further tested sedentary male rats in their experiment; author of the study Jenna Lee says:
“Our team wished to make every effort to learn female perspectives on how exercise put impact on diet, because most other studies abandon females. We wished to take a look at what force diet first choice and if environmental factors, such as physical activity, play a role in how men and women eat.”
The research team separated female and male rodents into two clusters – an inactive group and the other which got a running wheel in the cage. Both groups were given a similar diet. A week later, Jenna Lee swapped the regular food with a trio of different foods: one with high fat (akin to cookie dough), another in high sucrose (thrice the amount of sucrose than other two foods), and one with high starch content.
All three foods were similar in proteins, and the rodents had uninterrupted access to these for a time period of almost a month. Male rats with running wheels consumed around half as much of the cookie dough as their inactive equivalents but amplified their consumption of the two other foods. Female inactive rodents, akin to their male complement, typically remained with the high fat food.
The element of surprise in this study revealed that female running rats also had a liking to the high fat content food and essentially ate a bit extra calories than their sedentary female rodents. Ultimately, the research pulls interest to the crucial points of analyzing both human males and females in forthcoming researches as concluded by Jenna Lee.
