UK retail sales record the biggest leap in more than 3 years

أظهر مسح لقطاع التجزئة أن المتاجر البريطانية سجلت أكبر قفزة في مبيعاتها في أكثر من ثلاث سنوات في سبتمبر/أيلول، بما يشير إلى أن المستهلكين يجدون سبلا للتكيف مع الضغوط التي تتعرض لها دخولهم.
وقالت شركة بي.دي.أو للمحاسبة إن مؤشرها الذي يرصد المبيعات على أساس المقارنة بالمثل ارتفع 2.9% على أساس سنوي، بعد زيادة أقل سجلها في أغسطس/آب.
لكن الزيادة تأثرت بضعف المبيعات في سبتمبر/أيلول 2016، بما يشير إلى أن النمو الأساسي يظل ضعيفا.
وتباطأ نمو اقتصاد بريطانيا بحدة في النصف الأول من 2017 إذ ضغطت زيادة التضخم منذ تصويت بريطانيا لصالح الخروج من الاتحاد الأوروبي في استفتاء العام الماضي وتباطؤ نمو الأجور على القدرة الشرائية للمستهلكين البريطانيين.
ويتوقع بنك انكلترا المركزي أن يرتفع طلب المستهلكين. وقال البنك قبل ثلاثة أسابيع إن معظم صناع السياسات في البنك يعتقدون أن هناك حاجة لإجراء لأول زيادة في أسعار الفائدة في عشر سنوات خلال الأشهر المقبلة على الأرجح إذا استمر تصاعد الضغوط التضخمية.
وفي الأسبوع الماضي، قال اتحاد الصناعات البريطاني إن نمو مبيعات التجزئة بلغ أعلى مستوى في عامين في أوائل سبتمبر/أيلول.
LONDON (Reuters) - British retailers posted their biggest jump in sales in more than three years in September, indicating that consumers are finding ways to cope with the pressure on their incomes, a retail survey showed.
The index, which tracks sales on a comparable basis, rose 2.9 percent year-on-year, after a smaller increase in August, according to accounting firm BDO.
But the increase was affected by weak sales in September 2016, indicating that core growth remains weak.
Britain's economic growth slowed sharply in the first half of 2017 as inflationary pressure pushed Britain's vote for EU exit in a referendum last year and slower pay growth on British consumers' purchasing power.
The Bank of England expects consumer demand to rise. The bank said three weeks ago that most policymakers in the bank believe the first interest rate increase in 10 years is likely to be made in the coming months if inflationary pressures continue to rise.
Last week, the Confederation of British Industry said retail sales growth hit a two-year high in early September.
