Taste of the Mooncake part 3
Seafood is also featured in moon cakes though for me, this is not a common one and may be popular in certain Chinese provinces. Across the other side of the spectrum there are sweeter varieties. Among the many different styles, my favourites lie within the more traditional approach that include lotus and red bean flavours.
Over the years the newer and more exotic flavour incorporating fruits and even chocolate have emerged. Green Tea was not always a popular choice but has quickly become one that is widely preferred. The green appearance makes them stand out quite well and make for wonderful gifts. Going a little further into the modernised moon cake inventory will see flavours such as ice cream and even cheese cake. It’s on the rare occasion that I get to sample the newer flavours and they are often available in some of the more mainstream outlets in China. Whatever the flavour, moon cakes are a tasty treat ti be enjoyed by all!
