El oficio de barbero es tan antiguo como la presencia del hombre sobre la faz de la tierra. En la antiguedad, tanto en Roma como en Grecia, los hombres acudían a las barberías con la finalidad de satisfacer las necesidades que en sus propios hogares no podían lograr sin ayuda externa: cortar sus cabellos y afeitar sus caras; mientras las clases pudientes poseían, con frecuencia, un hábil esclavo, que con tijeras, espejos y navajas de diferentes tamaños, cumplían los deseos y caprichos de sus amos.

Durante la Edad Media, la profesión adquiriría nuevas dimensiones, al ser autorizados los barberos a participar en operaciones quirúrgicas menores, invadiendo el terreno de la cirugía, reservado a los escasos médicos de la época. También se desempeñarían como dentistas ocasionales, por lo que quienes acudían a las barberías a partir del Siglo XIII, lo hacían con la finalidad de sacarse una muela, curar una úlcera, o incluso, realizarse una sangría, una práctica médica común que consistía en la extracción de la sangre del paciente para tratar diversas dolencias.

Con el tiempo, los barberos fueron perdiendo sus privilegios como "médicos" o "dentistas" de ocasión, para enfocarse en los atributos que dieron origen a su profesión u oficio, sin embargo, eso no fue obstáculo para que las barberías se transformasen en verdaderos foros públicos: lugares donde los hombres acudían para expresar sus opiniones y preocupaciones en torno a temas de interés general.

Esta imagen que tomara recientemente, corresponde a un barbero ejerciendo su ancestral oficio, en una barbería ubicada en el centro de la ciudad de Barquisimeto, lugar al que estoy acudiendo desde principios de este año, por lo atractivo de sus precios y los resultados que observo en el cuidado de mi cabello. Posteriormente, modifiqué la fotografía original haciendo uso de la aplicación PicsArt, empleando una superposición de filtros, comenzando con un filtro del tipo HDR (High Dynamic Range) con la finalidad de ampliar los tonos de la imagen original, y posteriormente un filtro sencillo de Blanco & Negro, un procedimiento que ya he usado con anterioridad en otras publicaciones, para finalizar con un filtro que me permitió "enmarcar" la imagen, con la finalidad de darle un toque retro a la misma.

The office of barber is as old as the presence of man on the face of the earth. They would also serve as occasional dentists, so those who came to the barbershops from the 13th century, did so with the purpose of removing a tooth, healing an ulcer, or even bleeding, a common medical practice that consisted of in the extraction of the patient's blood to treat various ailments.

Over time, the barbers were losing their privileges as "doctors" or "dentists" on occasion, to focus on the attributes that gave rise to their profession or trade, however, that was not an obstacle for the barber shops they became true public forums: places where men came to express their opinions and concerns about issues of general interest.

This image that he took recently, corresponds to a barber exercising his ancestral trade, in a barber shop located in the center of the city of Barquisimeto, place that I have been attending since the beginning of this year, due to the attractiveness of its prices and the results that I observe In the care of my hair. Subsequently, I modified the original photograph using the PicsArt application, using a filter overlay, starting with an HDR (High Dynamic Range) type filter in order to expand the tones of the original image, and then a Simple White & Black filter, a procedure that I have previously used in other publications, to finish with a filter that allowed me to "frame" the image, in order to give it a vintage touch.
