Do you want to be your own boss and decide your own salary?

Well, then the easiest way is to become a freelancer! You’ll still work for others, but the difference is that now they rely on you and you’re no longer just another sheep in the herd, producing results in their little cubicle. Being a freelancer let’s you work from the comfort of your own home, and depending on how productive you are you might even be able to reduce your hours!

It’s important to have as many sites as possible to find the work you’re truly passionate about, so i have prepared a list of the ones i consider to be the best for you!

1. Toptal

Toptal should definitely be the ultimate goal for anyone wishing to be a freelancer. I do not recommend even applying here before you have a lot of experience under your belt. Toptal offer great jobs and clients aswell as a very competetive compensation for your hard work.

Be aware that Toptal only accepts the top 3% of freelance applicants to their program after a series of tests and interviews. Once you feel that you are at the top of your field, apply.

2. Fiverr

Fiverr is a great place to start out your career as a freelancer, but i do not recommend latching onto doing it fulltime right at the start. You can set premium packages and similar but the general appeal of Fiverr is that you can get a task done by someone for as cheap as $5. I suggest starting and over time just do your best, gather 5-star reviews and figure out ways to complete the tasks in your field as fast as possible.

For example if you’re a writer, find techniques on how to write faster and how to do proper research.

3. Upwork

Upwork is a great site where you can earn anything from just a few extra bucks to a fulltime income in just a few days depending on your field and your expertise. It can be extremely hard getting that first job in the beginning due to competing rates but if you do your job well you will eventually find that one client who keeps returning with more work for you.

Upwork also has their own software that you can download to track the hours you spend on a project to make it easier for you and your client.

As time goes on you will become faster and better at your job. If you combine that with raising your rate bit by bit over time you will eventually be able to earn more money in less time than when you started.

4. PeoplePerHour

Aimed at web projects for marketers, SEO specialists, and software engineers People per Hour become a great platform for anyone with a background in coding or marketing. As a free user you can apply to 15 offers before you need to sign up for one of their paid plans. However do not worry, you can still browse unlimited projects as a free user in order to see if you truly are interested before you start paying.

Don’t be fooled by the domainname, they do have jobs with fixed prices aswell.

5. Freelancer

They offer thousands of projects consisting of anything from entry level to expert work. There are several types of projects including hourly work and contests. Freelancer.com is a great place for you to build a nice portfolio of clients for the future, in order to make sure you always have something to work on.

6. SimplyHired

This is a platform that offers work in pretty much any field you can think of. They offer work in 24 different countries and in 12 different languages. Don’t forget to check out their blog where they post hiring tips for freelancers!

7. Crowsource

Crowdsource is a very interesting freelance platform. The way it works is that you’re basically part of one big team. Instead of submitting the job to a single freelancer, the site breaks it down to smaller tasks that it then gives to its freelancers. If you do a great job you can expect a bigger cut of the pie and more work in the future.

8. Freelance Writing Gigs

Are you an experienced writer, or just looking to get started? Then you have to check FWJ. Just stop and imagine for a second that every single person visiting this website is looking for your talent. I don't think there's anything more i need to say.

9. iFreelance

iFreelance is great platform for those of you with a background in editing, coding or writing! They offer jobs at any skill level. Best part about it? They have no fees, so you get to keep 100% of your earnings.

10. Aquent

Aquent does a great job at providing great oppurtunities for people in the creative field. You can either work on-site or remotely and they offer several courses for you to bring your skills to greater heights. If your goal is Toptal, i suggest doing these courses, and any you find anywhere really.
