How to make more money on Udemy?
Hello guys, today I want to share with you my journey on Udemy so far. I've been on that platform for some months for now and I learned so much in such a short time. I made a list with all the things that I've learned that you should do to maximise your sales.
7 Steps to sale more on Udemy!
I learned that is not just a thing you have to do at some time in order to be successful, but rather a more complex process which begins when you decide to create a course.
1. Chose a good topic - this is the first and a very important step. There are courses that makes hundreds of thousands of dollars and courses that make only a few dollars. On Udemy you can make a course about anything, but a course about how to play Badminton, for example is not a great topic in order to make money. The platform has great tools in order to search a great topic, with insights about demand, offer, average income and many more.
2. Minimum A/V - the audio and video quality are very important. For video you have to record at least in 720p, but for audio there is more to do. Firstly you have to buy some equipment to record. Udemy has a list with the recommanded audio equipments. The list is for all the budgest. In my case I spend somewhere about 20$ for the Microphone.
Here is a list with the equipment - https://support.udemy.com/hc/en-us/articles/229605608-Recommended-Audio-and-Video-Equipment. Secondly you have to reduce the environmental noise, find a spot where is quiet and nothing distract you.
3. Take your time - I know some of you have the feeling within you that you have to be first. I had this too and I paid the price. Given the fact that on Udemy are so many courses ( +45 000) and new courses appear on daily basis some of you may think that they have to create the course fast in order to be successful. This is wrong, from what I saw does no matter if your course is the only one in a topic or is one from hundred that already are there. A course may yet make a lot of money, because there are many things that make up a good course. Quality is the biggest player in this game.
So what I want to say is that you don't have to hurry up, take your time and create the best course you can.
For example, there are instructors who made hundreds of thousands of dollars, because they created over 100 courses and instructors that made millions of dollars with only 5 - 8 courses. One good course > more poor quality courses
4. Course landing page - a great landing page with a good promotional video will make the difference between thousands of students and hundreds of students. When the students will come across your course they will see only the landing page, with the promo video and some free preview videos that you've selected. The landing page will determine if that students will enroll in your course or not. Take your time to create a good description of the course, get inspired from other successful courses and see what you need to write on your landing page to convert your students.
For now, all suggestions were for the process of creating the course, the following are useful after publishing the course
5. Rank up your students number and your reviews - Udemy is a market place and all you need to succeed is student approval. A course with a lot of enrollments and with good reviews will be more eye appealing for the other students.
There are several ways to brings students on your course. The one that I use and is the most efficent is to find groups on Facebook with the keyword free udemy coupons or udemy discounts and offer there free coupons to your course.I usually do the following: in the first day when I launch the course I go in that groups and offer a free coupon available for the first 24 hours. This will bring some thousands of students on the course and these students will leave reviews also.
These is usseful if you don't have an audice and you try to build one.
6. Promote your corse - Udemy will promote your course and you can relax, this is true. But you can give a hand of help and promote the course yourself too at least in order to attract more users on your landing page. This will give a hint to Udemy's algorithm and will keep promoting your course. Go and post about your course on Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Twitter, anywhere you have an account. Another thing that I do, I make giveaways from time to time with the help of Instagram influencers. This brings a lot of new audience on my course landing page. Another thing that I do is the following: once two weeks I choose a course and I send promotional emails to students enrolled in the other courses
7. Be active in your own course - yes, this will boost the enrollments a lot. When I publish a course I wait for a week and then I create an ad in which I greet the students. Once a month, at least I make different ads, create competitions, or put free educational materials on the course page. This will get more students to enroll in your course and will make current students leave a review.
Another tips to make your Udemy journey more profitable
1. Build an audiance - this is maybe the most profitable thing you can do. Most succesfull instructors on this platform have several social accounts and at least one Youtube account. They already have an audiance and they can promote their courses to their followers. My advice is to choose at least one social platform and build an audiance there. Post daily and interact with your followers. The most profitable platform is Instagram. So I suggest you to start from there. Youtube channel is a must, if you don't have time to post there yet, then at least post a promotional video to your course or some free videos from it.
2. Join Udemy's official Facebook groups - this will keep you informed about the latest things that happen on the platform and will give you the chance to interact with successful instructors
These tips have helped me grow from two low-rating courses, with only $ 17 earned within a few months at a course where most reviews are 5 stars and many winnings from the very first month.
