Making Some Noise: How To Establish Your Blog In The Markets
When non internet marketing people first hear about top bloggers making thousands of dollars monthly, then their first reaction usually is : "Huh? Seriously? How?".
I asked myself the very same question.
If these million dollar bloggers don't earn their money on steemit, where does the revenue come from then?
Learning From The Best
There are some content creators out in the internet that make over $100,000 per month.
Not surprisingly a lot of people - like us :-) - are trying to enter this prosperous market.
Steemit is providing a genious opportunity to monetize content. However, from a global perspective the top bloggers are making their living otherwise (still).
These are the top 3 income categories:
- Affiliate earnings (via affiliate links) - Money bloggers own for referring sales to another company through blog posts
- Advertising - Money bloggers get paid for to show ads on their site or get clicks on these ads.
- Products & Services - Money bloggers get for selling their own products and services to their blog audience.

Probably in the near future there will appear a point no. 4: "Blogging on steemit" :-)
Since steemit's blogging interface still doesn't permit to integrate any advertising or affiliate embeds and I personally don't have any products or services to offer, I've started to call some attention for my blog in a different way.
Nobody gets famous / rich overnight.
Every journey starts with the very first step which in this case means: "making some noise".
My blog posts are mainly dedicated to outdoors, surfing, nature and other related topics. The brands I've started to reach out are directly related to that thematic group.
Bearing in mind that the final goal is to establish the blog in the relevant markets, your approach should be sales oriented from the very first instance.

Here Are My Very First Attempts "Making Some Noise"
Shared the story about my new surfing outfit on Twitter, tagged @oneillwomens (5,7K followers) and they liked it:
Tweeted some edited surf photography and @SurfingTopNews retweeted it and shared a teaser on their website (link to steemit included):
Tagged @gopro in the link to my camera review and @GSlartOfCapturing published an own tweed about it:
Then @goproheroplanet (8K followers) liked that:
These are neither groundbreaking achievements nor measurable impacts on the visibility of my blog.
However, they are little steps towards the greater goal of more attention.
Ah, and the fact that "O'Neill Women" (which is one of my very favorite surf brands) liked my tweed was very good for my ego, haha!
What I will do starting from now is to...
- ...keep communicating in the same line to build "identity".
- ...produce content that enables me to smartly include some other established brands or products ("place" them into my videos for example).
- ....talk constantly about topics that match with my blog's image and theirs as well.
There are still a lot of cool brands I want to reach out. "Carver" is one that didn't react on my corresponding tweed (tag) for instance:
Nice side effect: Besides the promotion for your content, these publications generate traffic from the outside to steemit which strenghthens the platform in general and contributes to its growth in the long term.
Content is King, but promotion is Queen!
It would be nice to know how you promote your blog outside of steemit's borders, if you are interested in further monetization opportunities (in addition to the rewards you earn on steemit) or if you don't care about these aspects at all.
Thanks for your attention :)
Marly -
When I first found steemit through a thread on warrior forum I was so dumb founded.. I have tried blogging in the past, I was only making some few dollars each month.
When I found steemit i knew this was the future of blogging as we know it. STEEMIT is BLOG 3.0
You and me both... As soon as I saw the site and could tell that it was legit, it was like the biggest lightbulb moment ever
And I can see that just like me, you are having serious fun on Steemit. Lets connect @heymattsokol. Thanks
@heymattsokol @lucashunter - I agree with you both, tons of potential☺
Steem on!
The bottom line is: After steemit's platform existence - there is absolutely no reason for any "sane" blogger not to use it!!!
You were lucky making a few dollars each month, I was only able to make a few cents.. LOL
Me, too!! :-) No worries, we've all started like this.
I agree with you
True story! steemit is kind of a release buzzer in the crypto blogging world :-)
:-)
With this model Steemit could end up eating Facebook and Twitter's lunch
OMG - lol. Now I know why my partner in business is nearly addicted reading your stuff :-)
I love it too - haha.
Haha! You must be kidding! What a sweet comment to start the day with. Thank you - and to your business partner, too 😉
Hahahaha 😂👍 Ich muss mal arbeiten, Jungs! Ja, auch ich tue das hin und wieder... 😄
Laters and hugs & kisses to Austria!
People should start paying you for all the advertising you do on their products!
Yeah well that's the final goal I was actually talking about...:-)
Hi Marly, just my opinion (( I just joined Steemit yesterday )) but I think You should
directly connect with the CEO's & Marketing Directors of any of the brands You like, use
and want to promote... don't be afraid. Just ask for their secretaries and introduce Yourself...
share Your Steem Videos, Your Tweets, etc... and explain that the world is changing rapidly
EVERY DAY... the traditional/conventional ways of marketing is in the process of an accelerating, transformational, paradigm shift that is occurring right before our eyes...
You may even be hired part-time to promote their products in ways we may not even know, possibly a magazine advertisement or some other type of marketing media they are already using...
You are a VERY likeable person and I feel that You have many more opportunities than You may currently realize...
I hope my comments help... and Thank You for Your support when I joined yesterday !!
First of all thanks for your kindness, @sacred-agent :)
The idea that you mention might be an interesting one for the future. However, I'm still not at that point to seriously offer being an ambassador for any of these brands. Yes, my blog is growing, but 800 followers on steemit.com isn't a number that would impress anybody out there :-) What I'm doing now is just trying to call attention in order to gain even more followers - not only on steemit but also on Twitter and Youtube.
It's definitely a long term project.
Steem on, too! :-)
Great & helpful ideas.
Thank you!!! I'm happy you found it somehow inspiring 😉
Great advise @surfermarly - so I see you are focusing on #Twitter to increase the drumbeats - this is a wise decision!
I promote on tons of other platforms depending on the topic of a post.
Twitter is really working well for me so far. It's very easy to tag someone else even if you are not directly connected. Plus: a lot of accounts have huge amounts of followers and a simple comment or share can bring you a complete set of new followers, too.
Which are the networks that you are using?
Twitter, Minds.com, Dashburst, Facebook, Google+, the8app, Flipboard and soon again Medium
"Content is King. but promotion is Queen!" I like that idea... :)
Thanks :-)
You're welcome... it is my pleasure to comment on valuable contents like what you have here.
Thank you so much! :)
I found this to be very informative! Thanks!
You are more than welcome and thanks for leaving your feedback 😉
Ummm...
Can I get your AUTOGRAPH @surfermarly
( I'm a SUPER DUPER fan )
Hahaha! You are crazy! I'd rather have a beer with you at the next Steemfest 😅
Thanks for this content, it is very useful and relevant for steemit community. After all, making money is the ultimate goal.
Thanks for stopping by @maila6000! I'm glad you considered it valuable 😉
Best of luck for your own steemit ride!
Thanks for the useful blog. I have been wanting to start a non-steemit blog but it's a bit intimidating. I just started using twitter and instagram so that may help in the future. For now, it is just steemit for me. I really do love this community. I followed you for more cool content. :)
Thank you @lauralemons!! You are totally right: it's much easier and more comfortable to start blogging on steemit than opening an own blog where you have to build your followership from zero.
Thanks for the follow, followed back 😉
Have a nice day!!!
