Steem Freelancer's Guild Allocation of Funds (Feb 2018)

In the spirit of transparency, I present to you the first draft of the Steem Freelancer's Guild budget.

This project will be earning money in many different ways, while staying true to the core value of putting freelancers first. Not only do we promise to never take a portion of a freelancers earnings like marketplaces such as Fiverr and Upwork, but we also promise to work alongside anyone who desires help, to advance the careers of every person who joins our prestigious group of amateurs and professionals alike.

Entry into the guild requires a one-time fee of 5 SBD.

The fees collected will be split as follows:

  • Powering Up (60%)
3 SBD from every new member will be converted to STEEM on the spot, and transferred into SteemPower to provide more support through upvotes.

  • Scouting (20%)
Members are now entitled to 1 SBD for every person they get to join the guild. This will give members an incentive to bolster our ranks. This offer is only available to SFG members, but there is no reason why someone couldn't join just to scout for new members. If the guild itself was the reason someone joined (a blog post, the website, etc.), this portion will be split between powering up and profit.

  • Profit Pool (20%)
The remaining 1 SBD will go into the guild profit pool, to be allocated as explained below.

The money in this pool will be split into various 'sub-pools' to fund different parts of the project. These funds will come from many places, including but not limited to blog earnings, future merchandise sales, and a portion of membership fees. These funds will be allocated every Friday as follows:

  • Core Team Salary (50%)
This is where a full half of profits will go. Put simply, without people behind the scenes, none of this world be possible. Before anything else, the SFG will be a business. Not one based solely on profit, but a business that provides a service none-the-less.

The "Core Team" is currently @thatsweeneyguy alone, but as the guild grows, so will the need for responsibilities to be delegated. Anyone who is "hired" to be a core team member in the future will be entitled to an equal share of this sub-pool.

  • Marketing (15%)
The funds in this sub-pool will be spent spreading awareness of the project. This could include things like community outreach, contests, resteem services, and more.

  • Website (10%)
This will go toward keeping https://steemfreelancers.com up and running smoothly. Not only will it in time pay all of the website costs, but will eventually allow extra revenue to be spent hiring freelancers to "spruce it up".

  • Voucher Program (5%)
Funds put into the voucher fund from profits will be used to fund "free services" to the community from our members.

  • Internal Gigs (5%)
When the guild needs something random done, the money here will pay our members for that work.

  • Discord Moderators (5%)*
These people will help keep the discord server in order. They will help with onboarding and support.

  • Curators (5%)*
These are members who will actively seek out posts that deserve to be promoted from inside and outside our ranks.

  • Community Liaisons (5%)*
Eventually, we will reach out to communities who speak other languages than English. These liaisons will act as intermediaries, bridging the language gap between the guild and new markets.

[*] = These roles are not yet filled, and any portion of the profit that would go into these funds will be divided equally among the other sub-pools.

Any future donations in liquid form will be divided into 4 equal portions; powering up, marketing, website, and vouchers.

This will help make sure any donations are beneficial to many different parts of the project.
If a donor specifies where their donation should go, this division will not take place.

I have other projects that need my attention as much as @steemfreelancers, and laying out these numbers will be a good foundation for getting people more involved, and letting me take a more passive role when everything is set up and running smoothly. Thank you for reading! I would love to hear what you think about how profits will be handled within the guild. Is there anything you would change? Let us know in the comments below! We're very open to community input, as we are here to serve you, not the other way around.

Have a Great Day!
