Carry trade still carrying on
Golabally interest rates have been cut to never before seen lows. Some even have a negative borrowing rate. On the other hand The Indian rupee and Turkish lira still make the carry trade a solid strategy for success. Today, holding a USDTRY "overnight " or past 5pm will pay you $25 interest per round lot. The way this works is the trader is selling the currency with the lower interest rate while simultaneously buying the currency with the higher rate. Doing the opposite will result in having to pay that interest. Very attractive trade when the dollar is weak or going through a medium to long term correction, like right now.
If the dollar 💵 fails to find support @ 95 the DXY could fall back to 85. Before finding solid demand. A carry Trader's dream. Example: short 4 lots USDTRY for 6 months will yield almost 18k in interest. A classic institutional strategy now available to the public through the SPOT market. To put it into perspective: a prop trading desk has a 10,000,000 position is making $2500 a day in interest before factoring in P&L. Carry On!
