Here's thing about booking a place on Airbnb: Finding the actual cost per night can be kind of tricky. When users browse the site, they are only given a base price that doesn't take into account various fees and taxes. Only after clicking through a few steps is this total price (which can be substantially higher than the initial number) given. Needless to say, wading through all of this to accurately compare the costs of different lodging options can be pretty time consuming.

Enter the "Airbnb Cost Per Night Corrector" browser extension, currently available for free for Chrome and Firefox. The extension, which was posted to Reddit by its creator on Thursday, takes on the simple but time-saving math task of dividing the total cost (after all fees are included) by the number of nights a user is looking to book.

As long as your party size and dates are accurately entered, clicking into a property instantly shows you the true cost per night, including fees, making it easier to compare lodgings quickly and with a glance.

In practice, I found the extension worked exactly as advertised, and joins the ranks of must-have extensions for Airbnb users (my favorite on the host side of things: "AirReview", which makes it easy for hosts to see the reviews that prospective guests have left for past stays, allowing us to weed out the impossible-to-please types who like to write bad reviews no matter what).

Still, there is one shortcoming I'd like to see fixed: As of now, the extension only offers the "true" price once you click into a property from the search page. Although I assume there is a technical reason for this (it may be difficult for the extension to get all the needed numbers to run the math without the user actually loading the listings), if the developer can find a way to include this feature, it would allow for true at-a-glance comparisons, straight from the search screen.
