Watch Out For This LeadBolt Email Phishing Scam!

in #money7 years ago

There is not a day that goes by online where someone is not trying to figure out a way to separate you and your money from one another. It is no different with the latest email scam using a mobile advertising platform called LeadBolt to lure in people like myself that at one time had an active account.

Somehow these people have managed to get ahold the user database to where they could email users telling them that they have $100.00 waiting in their account and that they can login to the account through the link provided in the email.

It is no telling what would happen if a person was to click on the link provided in the email as it was not something that I was willing to do, but when I logged into my account by typing in the name of the website there was no $100.00 waiting for me to be claimed like email stated.

You have to be very careful nowadays in regards to what you decide to click on.

There have been a number phishing scams recently. CryptoLanka just posted a MyEtherWallet Phishing scam. This one is very scary because of all the Ethereum based ICOs out there requiring MyEtherWallet and newbie internet investors blindly clicking. Thank you as always for your informative posts.

@iamcryptojoe I know it is pretty sad that everywhere you turn people are trying to scam those not aware of the domain extension. I'm not sure why myetherwallet just did not buy up all of the main extensions and point them to the main extension.

I think these companies sell your information to these scammers, evil schemes.

@vallesleoruther your right about that as these companies have multiple ways that they profit from user data.

It could be that Leadbolt sold user information just like FB and other well know organisations also do. In my mind, all users information are available for a price.

We may signup to various websites and they say they will not share user information but further down the road they will have a change of heart when they realise the information they are sitting on is a gold mine. They will make 100% profit from doing so because they already have the information at no extra cost.

In this cash strapped economy where everyone is looking for yield there will be more to come.

@marcusxman you're right as it is no telling how these people obtained this information as I have not used this account for years. All I know is that no one's information is safe anymore.

That stuff is always good to know, tons of phishing scams coming up. :)

@stackin yeah there are too many scams that exist to the point where you may not even be able to open up your email one day.

Thanks a lot @mrwalt , I always appreciate your constructive advise.

@charles1 glad that you value my feedback and that it could be of help to you.

Always @mrwalt your feedback is always welcomed

@charles1 glad that you appreciate the content.

welcome buddy

It is all good my friend.

Great, thanks and more success

I hate stuff like this. I just got a Paypal scam email yesterday and it had the last 4 digits of my credit card in the email. I'm wondering how the got my last 4. Not good.

@legosnjoysticks yeah all of these data mining sites just selling information back and forth allowing average everyday access to purchase this information is crazy. Just look at www.spokeo.com.

Huh! Good to know!

whenever I suspect a phishing email I report it my email provider as phishing, usually the easy ones are the banks and paypal and then others such even if they aren't really phishing such as I won a lottery or a rich cousin died I also report it as phishing. Basically anything that looks suspicious I let my email provider know about it.

@allucky111 this one was really crazy as it looked just like the email that LeadBolt would normally send which is why I said these people are really good.

I've arribed here from a Youtube video I think that investing 9000$ here is an intelligent option!
I follow you to keep in touch!

Bye!

@resiliencia glad that you found my video and that it brought you here.

@mrwalt This is very true... What is leadbolt exaclty? Sorry to hear, I hope they didn't commandeer any other parts of your personal info or the network or your hardware or anything... It's a scary world sometimes

upvoted n resteemed man

@kemosabe I appreciate the upvote and you resteeming the post. Basically LeadBolt is a mobile advertising network on the same level like MaxBounty but just with mobile applications.
