Should We be Mad at How the Top 1% Spend Their Income?

in #money7 years ago (edited)

One of my pet peeves in life is when people complain about the seemingly exorbitant amount of money wealthy people spend.

For instance, I watched a video the other day from Dave Ramsey where he talks about the rapper Jay-Z dropping $100,000 in one night.

Now, to be fair, $100,000 is no small change and is more than double the annual income for the average westerner.

However, when you break down the numbers of what Jay-Z actually spent in comparison to his income, it gives one pause to think.

Dave does a great job of simplifying the numbers and showing what $100,000 looks like to someone that has a large income.

When you realize what the ratios are in relation to what we tend to spend on a night out, you may have my reaction as well.

If we are upset about the amount of money others are able to spend, we may want to check our own efforts versus theirs.

There is a reason that the 1% have what they have, and invest the way they invest - they value their time and money differently than we do.

I highly encourage you to watch the first 8 minutes of this video and invite you to listen to Dave’s wisdom.

I think it is much like on here. I try to not pay too much attention to the trending page. I rather put blinders on so I stay focused on making content I enjoy and supporting my friends on here. It is too easy to get sidetracked and then resentful. I try to mind my own business, and hopefully then Im too busy to be minding theirs lol.

Lol, I completely agree with you.

Generally, I only go to the trending page to see if there are major updates to learn about.

More importantly, you can't improve your situation if you are spending your energy on other people!

@lydon.sipe Poor People Spend Their Money and save what's left , Rich People Save Their Money and spend what's left .. They say rich don't work for money , they make money work for them :)

Sounds like Rich Dad Poor Dad wisdom there. ;)

if they spent they money in things that don't harm other people they i don't care but if it's the exact opposite then we should be totally mad

Also, when you are doing business at that level, lay people have to understand that you have to spend money to make money. That amount he is spending is also a way of profiling/branding his name, and in that sense, profit more. I think that’s just the way of the game.

Envy is not becoming. Love doesn't engage in it.

However, it's not easy conquering the emotion when you are working hard and not succeeding, while others seem to coast through life! ;)

I'm not a big fan of Ramsey, but I must admit to being prejudiced against anyone who counsels compliance with the beast... :O

😄😇😄

@creatr

when you are working hard and not succeeding, while others seem to coast through life!

I concur with you there, lol. The Lord has a way of speaking to us through that experience.

Nah... definitely not mad when they're spending their money on goods and services. That's what stimulates the economy. :)

I do get a little offended when they buy their influence or seem to kick the ladder from beneath them so that others can't rise up. All of em do it but i guess some more obnoxiously than others.

Well said.

It does become annoying when those ahead in monetary terms try to stay ahead unjustly. Hopefully a more fair and free market money will aid in the playing field.

Complaints when the rich save (hoard) their money, and when they spend it in their self interest (giving people jobs!)

Can't debate with someone who wants to steal...

Can't debate with someone who wants to steal...

Good point... it takes a change of mind.

G-d willing... and in our days!~

But in some cases there are also those people who have tried super hard but seems like luck hates them. But on some cases, I do agree that we should never complain about the income of someone because sometimes their efforts are more than 100% than those who have small income .. :)

You’re right, circumstances can fall into both of those camps. Our best course of action is to be grateful for what we receive. :)

I guess that's the key. Being grateful for what we have is the key to be happy

'Thank you @ lydon.sipe for sharing the video, you have placed very interesting questions that we should consider. Best regards
