This project is a self-serving opportunity, and I will share my journey.
The hope is to learn more about the various cryptocurrencies.
Let's take a moment to review the MAIN cryptos, as they are the basis for almost all other altcoins.
Name (year founded)
- Bitcoin (2009) - Essentially the world's first blockchain. The 'gold standard' for cryptocurrencies.
- (approx.) Max supply= 21 million
- Bitcoin Cash (2017) - Altcoin based on Bitcoin's blockchain with some adjusted features.
- (approx.) Max supply= 21 million
- Dash (2014) - Altcoin that introduced the multiple-hashing X11 algorithm.
- (approx.) Max supply= 22 million
- Ethereum (2015) - Introduced Smart Contracts to blockchain development. Also, boasts open source coding platform.
- Max supply= Infinite
- Ethereum Classic (2016) - Created after Ethereum DOA hardfork to refund Ethereum Foundation Member's money.
- Max supply= Infinite
- Litecoin (2011) - Designed to be the "silver" to Bitcoin's "gold".
- (approx.) Max supply= 84 million
- Monero (2014) - Derived from the Cryptonote code drop. Uses Ring Confidential Transactions.
- Max supply= N/A
- Zcash (2016) - First crypto to use zerocash protocol. Used large "Founder's Rewards" to initiate early mining.
- (approx.) Max supply= 21 million
- Zcoin (2016) - First crypto to use zero-knowledge proof (Merkle Tree Proof of Work).
- (approx.) Max supply= 21 million
- Namecoin (2011) - First real altcoin as it used BitDNS concept. First merged-mined altcoin.
- (approx.) Max supply= 21 million
