EVERYONE WHO PLANS TO EVER PLAY POKER SHOULD READ THIS 4 THINGS
1. POKER IS A GAME OF SKILL, MATHS, LOGIC, INTUITION, PSYCHOLOGY....AND A LITTLE BIT OF LUCK-
This means you need to define your expectation before starting a game of poker if you want to take it seriously put effort in studying the game and accept all the luck and unluck you think you have. If you are just occasional recreational who wants to gamble now and then accept your results could be very random and luck dependant! (+ skill disadvantage you have vs someone who puts in effort to study).
2. RESPECT YOUR BANKROLL
Bankroll is an amount of money you have aveliable to play poker. Poker is a game that includes luck factor which means even if you play the game perfectly you might end up losing that session. For this reason you need to play games you 'can afford to lose' so you can lessen so called variance ( simplest explanation: luck factor).
3. LONGTERM GOALS
As in anything else in poker your plans need to be longterm orientated in order to have success. As mentioned in chapter 2. luck is a part of poker game and only thing we can do about it is lessen it with the volume we put in and to be able to put volume in you need to respect your bankroll so it allows you play more even when bad luck starts. It is mathematically proven variance gets smaller with volume so if you flip coin 10 times you can easily win 0 or 0% and when do it 10000 its mathematically immposible. So when you take this in account you realise luck is here for short term. Longterm if you are playing better than opponents ( or better than 50%) of them you will come out profitable.
4. POKER IS ONE OF THE RARE BEATABLE(PROFITABLE) GAMBLING GAMES
In poker you do not play vs. house (doesnt matter playing online or at casino). You do pay some fee to house entering tournament called rake and thats it after that you play vs other players who paid same fee and now house simply doesnt care who wins. Not playing vs house in gambling is absolutely crucial, when you play vs human beings and actually have skill edge on them you can win money in poker longterm. However, we have to go again back to skill and emphasise poker is not easy money. It really is like with any other life activity: you come on battleground, perform well because you worked on it and longterm you have bigger chance than others to win. Of course poker is game of risk, but what activity nowdays isn't? Imagine how many times you did something right and you were not awarded for and on the other site you didn't do anything special you got rewarded? This things happen some time same is in poker but in the end of the day most of the time you will be rewarded for things you do well and same is poker, so keep making correct decisions and you will for sure get there and for me thats not huge risk to take.
This were some general advices on how to approach poker, in future i will post similar things but also go into more stratigic and more in game stuff. If you have some questions or comments on the post i made we cann discuss it in comments.
Hope i helped, Enes
It s still beatable ... but I m worryed about recent changes . For example the Beat the Clock at Stars and Blast on 888 that are close to unbeatable... So make sure you choose games that are beatable.
Yes you are completely right man. This new formats highly increase variance. As of my poker i am husng specialist and its the format i m earning for a living. There also some changes happend which doesnt seem to promising but we will see. Hit the follow button if you like to see some poker content i m newbie here gonna try to post on daily basis
droped my follow , i m a Spin & Go player , thats very close to HUSNG ;) Variance is not the Problem ... but a 5Minute Game with 12.5BB Starting Stack and 11% Rake is just unbeatable (Beat the clock).
And if Poker gets unbeatable you can go and play Roulette or something like that ...
Yep spin n go is actually only reasonable format from new ones. I still believe in poker formats like cash games and mtts wont die i just hav to make transition then. About roullete i dont think im planning to live of it heheh
