The Best Things to Sell on Ebay

Whether you’re looking to make some extra cash or you’re considering quitting your day job, eBay can be an excellent source of income.

The key is finding things that cost you very little to resell, or digging through your attic and basement to find things for free that you no longer want, and then selling them for top dollar.

Easier said than done, right?

Actually, the trick is in knowing what to look for. Yes, you can sell just about anything on eBay, but some things will yield a better return than others for your time and money.

Try and find things that are easy to ship, don’t weigh a ton, and have a steady stream of people interested in them.

Here are 5 of the best things I’ve found to sell:

Pottery Barn bed linens. Yes, they’re kind of bulky to pack and ship, but I have no trouble finding Pottery Barn comforters, duvet covers, and sheets, which often sell immediately after I list them. So I might spend $6 on a King-sized quilt and resell it for $60-70. Sheets, too, can sell quickly.

Hallmark Christmas ornaments. There are a million different kinds of Hallmark ornaments, so you need to scan the UPC code on the box or look up the ornament before you buy it to make sure it’s worth your time. However, I once paid $.99 for a Hallmark bird ornament in the original box that I thought was worth $40, which is a great return on investment, but actually sold for $329 in less than two weeks. Turns out it was a rare chickadee.

Plus-sized women’s clothing. Larger sizes of clothing sell well, especially when they're cute. So pick up blouses, sweaters, pants, dresses, and skirts that are size 1X-4X and if the item is in great shape, you’ll probably do well.

Birkenstock shoes. Yes, even used shoes and sandals sell well on eBay. Birkenstocks that are cleaned up sell pretty quickly.

L.L. Bean products. I’ve had good luck with L.L. Bean brand merchandise, probably because the quality is great and until recently, the company had a “no questions asked” return policy. I don’t know if demand for the brand will change now that they’re restricting returns more. I’ve sold the hunting boots the company is known for, sweaters, pants, bedding, and backpacks for good money.

Keep an eye out for these items as you’re cleaning out your closets, basement, or scouting the selection at your local Goodwill. If you’re lucky, you can turn a few dollars into a couple hundred.
