The intervention of Banesco by the National Government due to the detected irregularities that incur crimes defined by our laws in particular serious and notorious failures to their obligations of prevention of capital legitimation.

Statement by the National Government:

"The Bolivarian government, through the sectoral vice-presidency of the Economy, in accordance with the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and other laws that govern the protection of the economic rights of the people, informs the Venezuelan people about the intervention measure of the Banco Banesco, Banco Universal, CA to guarantee the full operation and continuity of the provision of services after the arrest of senior executives including the president of the aforementioned banking entity, due to irregularities detected that incur crimes defined by our laws especially serious and notorious failures to its obligations of prevention of legitimation of capitals."

"It is important to emphasize that this intervention measure will maintain the activity of the financial institution and is carried out precisely so that the institution retains its commercial activity and continues to provide its services to the users of the system with absolute normality."

"This action of protection to the Venezuelan people will have an application for a term of ninety days during which it is expected to redirect the administration of the bank, cleaning it up and stripping it of all that illicit activity that favors the commission of financial crimes."

"In this regard, the public is informed that the National Executive is appointing an administrative board headed by Deputy Minister of Finance Yomana Koteich for the duration of the intervention that will guarantee at all times the rights of the users, shareholders and shareholders, as well as the transparency of the operations carried out through that entity."

In this intervention, 11 arrests of senior executives were carried out within the banking entity and a new board of directors was elected.

Directed by Deputy Minister of Finance, Yomana Koteich, who will be in charge for the duration of the intervention.

The afternoon of last Friday 04/05/2018 officials of the Military Counterintelligence Directorate (Dgcim) closed the accesses of the Western Bank Discount Tower (BOD), located in La Castellana, Caracas.
