Monero Mining

Epiphany Hit Me Like a Ton of Bricks

I’m sitting here in the dark early in the morning.

Boom!!!

I have three computers and I’m not using any of them to mine. WTF?!?!

So....I jumped on the Monero website: getmonero.org and downloaded the GUI to “solo mine”.

Alas

Do my trusty, extremely dependable computers have the strength? I’m about to find out. Based on what I’m seeing...this might be a waste of time.

Been on this one for a while. ⬆️

Synchronizing Takes Time

My newest Mac is kicking butt. ⬆️

Up and Running

Once these are G2G, I’ll follow up with a progress report. I’ll remain positive because, so far, no failures.

My PC is “sleepy”. She’s always been kind of lazy...yes, it’s a SHE. ⬆️

My other Mac is still waking up. It’s seems my newest Mac is the only computer that synchronizes faster than a snail can move. 🐌

I’ll let you all know how it goes after 24 hours.

Have a Great Day!

You can also download a blockchain snapshot and synchronize from there. The process will be much faster! You could also try mining Electroneum or Sumokoin - both use the same algorithm and miningsoftware as monero :)

Mining at the House

The software from the Monero website is up and running on my newest iMac.

huge HOWEVER...(literally)

I only get 64H/s. I’m losing ~$2.00 a day. This is clearly not profitable. Have you heard of any ways to optimize a computer for improved hash rate?

Break Down and Buy a Mining Rig

I’ll probably drop some scratch to get that 6-GPU rig I’ve been looking at.

Do you mine? Dedicated rig or do you use your PC/Mac for mining?

I am mining on my PC with a gtx 1060 which does about 550h/s overclocked. CPU's do not output that much hashpower for example my AMD FX 8350 (8x4,2 gHz) only puts out about 220h/s.

Tha hashingpower is mostly depending on how good your hardware is. Settings in software won't give you that much more. With cryptonight algorithm the memoryfrequency is the most important - the higher it goes the more hashes you get

I’m starting to see that the CPU doesn’t do much. I was able to get 180 h/s for Monero on my iMac.

Overclocking and running hot like that will make that GPU become unstable pretty quick, right?

How long have you been running that?
I found the cryptonight download. It’s not for iMac as far as I can tell.

If you know of a version that is usable on a Mac, let me know, please.

Thanks for your time.

You can try minergate

MinerGate

You, my friend, are absolutely correct - @fi3ur

Mining with MinerGate

This is my Monero hash rate on iMac . Pretty slow. I’ll have to call it a hobby until I get a coin or two....which by my estimation, could take several years. 😂

This is on the MacBook.

Just a Hobbyist

That’s what’s is called when you eat the cost of electricity and accept the wear and tear on the computers. I’m sure there are other problems I’ll encounter. There is a pool fee, also.

Is MinerGate a Scam?

I’ve read a few reddit posts and other blogs online they mention how MinerGate “steals hash”. Yesterday, I came across a YouTube video showing how to delete the malware that comes with the download. I have no idea now to work this Mac at that level to find the malware. When I come across something, I’ll post it.

Thanks for reading the post.
