Modern Money Dynamics (MMD) Needs Champions in the Political, not Intellectual, Field
Geeks who are interested in economics no doubt already know a lot at the periphery about "Modern Money Theory", q.v., "Seven Deadly Innocent Frauds of Economics" by Warren Mosler,
https://www.moslereconomics.com/wp-content/powerpoints/7DIF.pdf and "The Deficit Myth", by Stephanie Kelton https://stephaniekelton.com/book/
But if you have studied MMT deeply, you need no convincing it is a factual objective description of how fiat money systems work in a sovereign nation.
In no need of further education (since I am a physicists, not an economist) I just love listening to guys like Steve Keen, Warren Mosler, and Bill Mitchell for the nerd entertainment value. However, I would seriously consider getting deeper into monetary economics (I have in fact duplicated some of Steve Keen's MCT simulations in C++ and Python for playing with) because I think the public is in dire need of education about the role of government deficits and budgets and tax policy. Most people are woefully misinformed and tragically vote for politicians who are even more ignorant who believe in deficit hawk neoliberal austerity policies. We all know most politicians come from the ranks of lawyers or union bosses, and are ill suited to be making economic finance decisions on our behalf with the currency we, as a people, basically "own". Through our elected government we own the currency, but we consistently relinquish power over it's proper use in society to these neoliberal fuckers and conservative wankers.
We gotta take the power back.
So, anyway, the latest Bill Mitchell talk I had up on screen was this one:
It's not bad, although this one was pretty good too:
I like the mix of Mitchell's irreverence and unapologetic leftism with Mosler's sardonic power nerdery.
Fascinating how MMD (modern money dynamics, the correct nomenclature!) is easily verifiable, requires no high tech equipment to verify, is practically true by design, and yet has been resisted as non-reality by the Econ profession for as long as evidence has been available (say, since fiat money was introduced) whereas my field (quantum physics) was incredibly hard to verify but resulted in a completed paradigm switch in little less than a few decades around 1925-1945.
Lesson: this is not an intellectual battlefield, it is a political privilege, class and power battlefield. To be a warrior for MMD you need not only study Wray, Mosler, Kelton and Steve Keen but also writers like Thomas Frank and Cory Robin: "The Reactionary Mind", https://archive.org/details/TheReactionaryMindConservatismFromEdmundBurkeToSarahPalin
The intellectual battle has already been won by MMD. It's time to kick in the raw activist power and grow a movement aligned with social democrats in politics and kick some conservative neoliberal ass. We really do need to take the power back. Hell, we've never had the power, RATM had dopey lyrics! LOL It should have been:
In the Left light, study becomes insight
But the system that dissed us, teaches us to read and write
So-called facts are fraud
They want us to allege and pledge and bow down to their god
Lost the culture, the culture lost
Spun our minds and through time, ignorance has taken over
Yo, we gotta take the power jack!
Bam! Here's the plan
Motherfuck Uncle Sam, step back I know who I am
Raise up your ear, I'll drop the style and clear
It's the beats and the lyrics they fear!
The rage is relentless
We need a movement with a quickness
You are the witness of change and to counteract...
We gotta own the power jack...
It's the reactionary conservatives who are fast going full clown fascist who are wanting to take their power back, because they're slowly losing it. The good people of the world, the workers, the artists, the farmers, we've never had the power, we do not know what it's like to lose power and seize it back. But we are getting a taste. So wake up, and watch out.
