Murati has left the building.
Everyone is leaving openai under vague circumstances or circumstances that look a lot like Sam Altman and they have irreconcilable differences. Meanwhile Sam Altman's claims get more and more extravagant, and new releases get pushed back and fail to exceed expectations. Even the old giant corporate partners seem like they're going their own way. Keeping some investment in openai but starting their own new projects and partnerships.
I'm not saying that I know that openai is imploding, they rest on such a tremendous technological base and probably still have a lot of momentum, but the long-term strategic signs seem largely negative to me. The question is, is there momentum big enough to take them to the point that they will be able to lock in permanent market domination or like many pioneers in new technologies, have they trail blazed to something that a lot of other people are actually going to homestead and build up?
It's worth noting that Mira marotti was one of the people, maybe the only person on the board that went to bat for Sam Altman when he was ousted. Either that or she quickly and effectively switched the sides when she saw the ouster wasn't going to be easy.
