RE: Minnowbooster Update Log #9

It seems you missed our update 16 days ago: https://steemit.com/minnowbooster/@minnowbooster/minnowbooster-update-log-2

5 times did not work out and with 3 times we can ensure that voting power stays high. the 5 times but at 20%vp and no one earning anything made us the most money on expense of the minnows, so we changed that.

If you look for more than 2 seconds it stops looking like that ;)

@minnowbooster. I think your reasoning is flawed. If you think like that you can even better put the multiplication factor at one times or two times, this will ensure the voting power stays even higher. If you really want to deliver value you don't reduce the multiplication factor but limit the amount of votes that your bot allows in a time period or you increase the steam power that the bot controls. Both cost money on your end

Reducing the profitability to 0 or even negative will hurt you very quickly . Do you believe that a return of $2.15 per post on one SbD is profitable for the user who invests that? Can you please explain to me how this would be the case?

In addition I still don't understand why you have not updated the post you refer to in the comments on every upvote. If you are really serious about helping minnows You ensure your communication is up-to-date, and simply understandable as this new group will have a hard time enough to find their way around steem. I don't understand the excuse that you cannot edit your opening post, why not at just the new post, preferably non monitized to which you refer from now on?

The communication of the reduced multiplication is now buried in a 15 day old board post which nobody will look at conveniently enough for you. Where you do push a message or five x multiplication 2000 times a day.

Well yeah, I did just such a post a few hours ago.

We also limit the amount of upvotes possible which like you said costs us.

Increasing the steem power is something I would love to do but steem gives you limits on how small you can vote, so raising the SP too high means I have to raise the minimum which hurts minnows. Working on supporting multiple bots but not done with that yet.

I know that once you slap a name on something, it is immediately evilcorp but your negativity brings nothing. We always try to listen to feedback and implement suggestions but if everything we do is bad, why care? Raising it to 10x profitability would probably still not be enough for you.

Once you start giving feedback and stop being negative, who knows, maybe we listen to you and change things. Maybe we even thank you for letting us know there was a problem. Tell me once you actually care :)

Although I am convinced unintentional, your 'new' post seems only partially updated. The first paragraph in the upvote section still states: Upvote Bot
You can request upvotes from the @minnowbooster bot. Just send SBD (at least 0.1 SBD) to @minnowbooster and receive an upvote worth up to 5 times what you paid. Add the post or comment url as memo.

The paragraph after seems updated. Can I suggest you also update the first paragraph of the upvote section?

Congratulations! This post has been upvoted from the communal account, @minnowsupport, by noisynooky from the Minnow Support Project. It's a witness project run by aggroed, ausbitbank, teamsteem, theprophet0, and someguy123. The goal is to help Steemit grow by supporting Minnows and creating a social network. Really, dang I missed that then, will edit in a sec! Thank you for checking.

If I wouldn't care I wouldnt react :) So lets take the emotions of being positive or negativew out of here an be factual.

Can you explain to me what the benefit for any minnow in your view when they do a 1 SBD upvote and get a 2.15$ upvote value with the VP at 82.5%. I just dont understand?

To avoid the fluctuation due to the decreasing VP, why do you not just increase the mutiplication factor when the VP lowers (I think I read you are polling it every minute anyway and even when not done that you should be able to extrapolate based on the number of votes the bot is passing).

I am not passing judgement, I would however be interested in your view on these questions (as I noticed you did not answer them fully in your previous reply.)

Thanks. Please note that I think some of the apps provided by your group are excellent (like steemvoter).

Wee a $2.15 upvote after curation is still $1.6 or so from which $0.6 are profit. It may not be a big profit, it is consistently dishing out value. And with the gifting feature, minnows can make big votes without needing a lot of SP. For example I use minnowbooster when I want to upvote someone, because I know that the MB upvote gives back more than I invested.

The thing we tried to solve with all our changes is how to bring value while still allowing people to actually use it. If we would vote with bigger % when VP is lower, that would drain us even quicker because the lower we are the more we upvote.

So we started with 5x profit and after a day VP was at 20% because people were fine with voting when they break even before curation. Thet the reward pool dropped and our vote was worth 1/10th of what it were before, so we coded in some limits and reduced the rate a bit to compensate for that.

We then lowered the limits a lot (and got some shit for it and that may be why I reacted a bit harsch to your comment, sorry!) and now VP is at a stable 80% and we are quite happy about that.

To change it back to 5x we would have to lower the daily limit from 1SBD to 0.5SBD. I don't know if we want that but I am certainly up for discussion on it because I too like the incredible 5x boost. But at 80% that will be 4x at best.

The one thing I really don't want is the bot sleeping for some time of the day, because that would base the boost on if you are one of the lucky few to be awake when it works again. That is really unfair and against our statement of being predictable.

I would love to hear your feedback on these issues (and tell me if I missed anything). If you want, we also have a Discord Channel where we can chat :)

@reggaemuffin First of all, apologies for the late reply. Secondly, thank you for the clear and concise reply. I understand your reasoning much better now.

At the point that supply is limited (VPxSP), the question is what the "predictability" you strive for means. Does it mean availability or quantitative predictability.

I think to protect minnows against themselves (they are cute sweet, but breakable colleagues ;) and avoid draining out and giving them negative ROI, it would be better to have a dynamic balancing mechanism, for instance by making the cooldown window variable, dependent on the VP of the bot. The constants which are currently in the algorithm are very hard to maintain if for instance the number of votes, the ammount of the votes or the VP changes.

Alternatively you can create a 'success percentage' for the votes cast (only X% of the submissions, get converted into an upvote and the other part returned to the user, with their time slot burnt).

Just some ideas. Thanks again for the response and keep up the good work
