Dodgy eBay Deals on Graphics Cards

in #mining7 years ago

Although eBay together with PayPal guarantee buyer protection, sometimes the price looks too good to be true. eBay is known for a bargain, however not all listings are actually 100% authentic.

Here is an example of one of the listings that appeared on eBay today:

Not bad, right?

Moreover, the item is listed by a seller with 100% positive feedback, which increases buyer’s confidence.

Some would say it’s just a pricing error. Well, not really. Here are a few more listings that appeared today on eBay.

The reality is even if Black Friday seems to be quite far away… the standard price for this kind of graphics cards is around $1000.

Compare the price of the goods for sale to similar goods for sale elsewhere on eBay. If there is a remarkable difference, think carefully before proceeding.

The good news is that even if you’ve purchased one of these ‘scam listings’, PayPal will actually reimburse you after a few weeks, when you find that you never received the item.

So how does the seller benefit from your purchase if the money gets returned by PayPayl?

I don’t know for sure, but I can guess that all the money generated by hundreds of sales in one day would go to non-sellers PayPal account, and then gets transferred away elsewhere. Almost certainly, the sellers account had got hacked before the above procedure.

So, the lesson to be learned from a story is don’t buy MacBooks on eBay that cost $100.00 otherwise you risk to get your money ‘frozen’ for a few weeks (or even lose your money in worst case scenario).
