Must Have Tools for Mining Rig Maintenance - 2018

Running a mining rig sounds pretty cool to everyone but the maintenance process is something quiet boring.

So here is the top three tools that I use all the time to make things handy and easier.

1. POWER METER

This is the most important feature if you are running a GPU mining rig.

The tool is not used again and again but only once to monitor the overall power usage of the machine.

The simple maths can also work to estimate the power usage of machine but once things are overclocked for better performance then using the power meter once will give you the exact reading of overall power compsumption, which is useful to calculate the projected electricity usage on timely basis.

This tools comes in different types and prices ranging form around 20-200$ but I suggest to spend lower amount of money because the tools is not used again and again.

2. THERMOMETER

Non contact thermometer or infrared thermometer will do the job perfectly.

Reducing power cost is the key to success on mining business, so most of us remove the keyboard mouse and monitor in order to save electricity.
Now the option left is to control your machine using remote access, but monitoring real time temperature is quiet hard because we have GPUs Processor and other things to watch.

A non contact will do this job, you can easily hold it pointing towards anything to monitor the temperature.

I use this tool once after every 4-5 days, to keep things cool as much as we can.
This tool also comes in different models but always try to grab good quality product.

3. Air Blower

This is one of the best tool everyone should have.

Air Blower is used to blow away the dust easily without even disturbing anything.
Some people use hair dryer to do the job, but it's up to you to determine what works best for you.

The above shown is the blower is use for my rigs. I bought it for around 25$ and it's working for more then one year now.
The best part for this type of cleaning is that you didn't even need to turn off the machine while cleaning, but it is suggested to shutdown machine in order to avoid any loose plug spark.

Make sure invest some of your budget and grab a good quality blower, the one in manufacturer's warranty is also the best one.

Remember that your machines also need some maintenance for long life. There are two basic rules on which we need to focus

No 1 is that we need to keep power consumption as low as possible
And secondly we need to keep our machines (including cables and GPUs) cooler.
So always keep a close eye on your rigs. It's not a set and forget business.
