Outside Mining in 115 Degree Heat
So here is my in home mining DIY rack and rigs.
I live in a third floor apartment so I wanted to put the rigs outside. I live in Los Angeles and they needed to be able to sit in the sun and not overheat. Dirt and dust was also an issue. I have 3 x 20amp circuits so the number of rigs was limited to a certain wattage.
I went cheap as I could on everything.
My first thought was to vent from the top and draw air in from underneath but that wasn't nearly moving enough air so I went with cheap box fans mounted to the front.
If people are interested in doing this, drop a comment and I will expand on it and put links to the items.
I have set up a 9 and 12 gpu systems with nvOC.
nvOS is as easy as setting up in windows but with the advantage of linux as well as being able to control everything including over clocking with a bash script file that's as easy as filling in a form.
Right now it hashes at around 205 to 270 Mh/s on ETH. Here's the build:
1x Motherboard Asus z270K http://amzn.to/2wURsCW
1x Celeron CPU http://amzn.to/2wYr9LG
1x Memory http://amzn.to/2xv4wQp
2x PSU http://amzn.to/2h2q506
1x USB Drive http://amzn.to/2wYsq5n
2x m2 pcie adapter http://amzn.to/2w5Kn3a
2x pcie riser http://amzn.to/2wV5t3M
9x or 12x GPUs http://amzn.to/2wYrXQH
1x power switch http://amzn.to/2wUqnjm
1x Wooden frame http://amzn.to/2h1Hbei
around $3300 with tax
During setup i encountered numerous errors, all of which were remedied. I went with 2 psus, not sure if its better in the long run but splitting 1100 to 1500 watts over two 850s seem to be decent for efficiency. I have built 15 of these now. I have created this system as the model for our small mining farm in California, so i will continue to feedback on these builds as I go.
Bios settings were very important. As was bios version.
Damaged risers and a bum gpu were also headaches during set up so be on the lookout for that. Once you have the bios settings right and the hardware actually works it really is as simple as flashing the drive, plugging it in and turning it on. If anyone wants the bios settings PM me but its here in the thread and is mostly about setting all pcie settings to gen2, using bios 0801 and not flashing the newer 0906.
One last thing, with these gpus I set the OC to
__CORE_OVERCLOCK=150
MEMORY_OVERCLOCK=1100
I created the rig frames from 1/2 inch square wooden dowels.
You can play around with in on Tinkercad here if you want.
I pre drilled holes and used 1 3/4 inch self drilling metal screws.

Nice setup! Doesn't it make too much noise for the neighbors?
Cheers. No the fans are not that loud.
As long as it last. What about humidity (moist) and dust? No fear?
The filters take care of the dust. It's always hot inside so no issues with humidity.
Thanks ! great setup again! ROI reached?
no roi for 6 months
how you set up 7 rigs?
i have 1x20 amp and it hold only 2 rigs for 2,2k wats
