Could all of us have been mining for Bitcoin since 2010 without even knowing?

2018: On my 3rd bowl of some really good OG, of course the conversation eventually turned to cryptocurrency. I was in the middle of explaining what a blockchain is and does to a friend of mine when she just randomly asked a very simple question. Could we have been mining for Bitcoin all along for years now but never connected the dots. So without hesitaton, I proceeded to pack another bowl to really understand what she was really bringing up.

Think about it. How many kids adults around the world actually played minecraft and spent hours and hours mining for gold. It is the same type of mining just like crytpto currency mining but on a smaller scale. If billions of people everyday used their computer and cell phones to mine on minecraft then that would be also enough processing power to mine for Bitcoin. Who is to argue that the riddles and questions we were answering in minecraft were actually solving algorithms to mine for Bitcoin and we would have never known it.
