RE: Why Do We Need to Read More Books and Connect with Literature?

in #mindset6 years ago

This hit on the major point of how the written word provides so much enrichment to our life and how we understand the world. And I have to absolutely agree with your paragraph

"At the end of the day, a very well-written piece of literature is often better company than having the same monotonous and useless conversations with people who would sooner give up on their dreams and wish for an end to their perpetual suffering than embrace the idea of change and improvement."

Holy cow I could not possibly agree more! People who are not improving themselves, do not improve their lives and give literally no value to society (as harsh as it sounds, it's true) nor even a simple conversation. People get so wrapped up in their lives, they actually stop living. They just "survive" and accept existence but have nothing to marvel or celebrate in. And yes you are right, many wish for an end to the suffering. In fact, the worst thing that we do to ourselves besides giving up on our dreams is convincing ourselves that there is nothing wrong with the nightmare that is our life.

In the famous words of the talking heads i will end with this:

"and you may ask yourself, well , how did I get here?" (insert existencial crisis here)

Thanks for the post!
