RE: “I Know Better because I’m More Experienced...”
For this round of delegations, I was originally looking for 5 people. It took me while, but I had finally found them. But then I looked at my SP and it felt so selfish to not share more, so I started looking for a couple more. I started going through the @heyhaveyamet posts, which was amazingly helpful, but also sad to see how many people had left after only making one post. Fortunately, there were some people who were stubborn enough to stay around :0)
This entire RC system is so unfair. How can one become a part of the community if he can't engage? Right after HF20, I still believed they would have a fix for it soon. Meanwhile, I have realized they are so not in touch with how it is like 'down here', that they don't even get that they are killing the entire community. Without an instream of new people, there is no future...
It shouldn't be up to us to fix things like this. Maybe the new 'managing director' will get that, but I'm not putting my hopes up.
So I'm glad there are indeed a couple of people who try to help out where they can, and haven't forgotten they were a newcomer once too. And I thought surviving those first couple of weeks was hard when I first started. But it has become almost impossible since HF20. I can't even imagine what it is like to have to wait 2 days to be able to reply to a comment...
I agree with so much of what you said...and yes.. that's usually what happens.
People come for one visit and then leave.
It's sad... It gives the newbies a false sense of hope.
We are still accepting 1-2 members each week in Welcomewagon, but that's so limited. Unfortunately...our training is so hands on and time consuming... That's ALL we can take each week.
Im so glad that there are lots of communities who are willing to help.
And you're right... It's shouldn't be only up to us to fix this...
There are so many people leaving before they can even get started. It's unfortunate. And.... Bad for the platform ultimately.
I heard there was an 80% drop in spam because of HF 20
But... I wonder how much onboarding has suffered also.
Was it worth it? Don't know
It's true that the amount of spam has dropped, but the userbase at the lower levels has suffered immensely.
I should take a look at @pinguinpablo's stats and see what I can find out.
The lack of transparency from STINC is very annoying...
I'm planning to write a post for the people I just delegated too, to give them some tips on the best ways to (survive) grow their account.
I've heard about Welcome Wagon before, of course, and I just saw a banner at the bottom of a post - don't remember which one - which made me want to go out and inform myself a little more. But since you only take in 1 or 2 members a week, it might not be such a good idea to mention it in the post.
I'm still interested in the initiative, though, and I'm ashamed that I don't know more about it than the fact that it exists. I remember seeing the first post, and I wanted to volunteer as a steempeer, but I'm not very good at making commitments, so I didn't.
Everything else that you're doing is still a big mystery to me. I looked through the posts on the blog, assuming you would have a Discord channel or something like that, but I couldn't find a mention of that anywhere (of course, I didn't go through ALL the posts, so I might have just missed it.)
I'll send you a link with the best description of what we do :)
Funny that you just said you thought about volunteering as a Steem peer... because I thought yesterday "she would make a great Steem peer!!!"
Hahahahaha
We do have a discord but it's only for members. We only choose 1-2 newbies per week because we simply have tried more but the level of commitment that we give to each person is reduced drastically when we are stretched too thin and we would rather quality over quantity. What we are doing was working really well before HF20. Our retention rate was about 75% compared to Steemit's 9%
But since HF20 that's probably dropped to about 50% for us. I think it's due to the lack of connection that people feel across the platform. The comments used to be lively and fun, and now people are hesitant to waste their RCs.
Anyway! Like I said .. welcome wagon is great at what we do... But there are other initiatives that serve more and are great at what they do too. But we just have different methods of helping new members. It all works together :)
I'll find the link for WW and send it later. I'm on my phone now hahaha
If I forget, just remind me in a comment 😊
