Consumers vs. Producers which one are you....???

We all consume, but do we all produce....??

This post is meant for anyone that feels stuck in a place of consumption. You are a subscriber but no one is following. If you’re mentally in a place where you feel as though no one is listening or you aren’t sure of the value you have - this post is meant for you.

As I mentioned we all consume - content, food, products, teachings we all have been a customer, client, or follower of someone or some company. Producing on the other-hand is the ability to create, grow, or supply value to another. Ask yourself “Am I currently doing that?”

Life has layers and we often times need to seek balance to feel fulfilled. If you are doing too much of one thing it can affect your health. In every regard, financially, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. If you are only giving and never able to receive you can become jaded, and over exhausted and if you are only taking(consuming) but never able to give, you can become isolated and selfish.

The balance of push and pull, give and take is something that Chinese Philosophers have studied for years. The idea that one cannot survive without the other, and the transference of energy, ying and yang, negative and positive. It’s all about having that necessity for both.

Everyone of us in here, is knowledgeable in something and have become experts in something. If you’ve been on this earth at least 10 - 13 years you are an expert at something. Which is why we can all give something of value to someone else, we just have to seek out those that could use that value. For those who consistently produce it is important to listen to anybody, you never know who will inspire you or provide quality content.

The producer won’t know the value of his product until the consumer offers their feedback. That key component to the give and take process is what makes any consumer valuable and allows them to become a producer.

The switch is simple. The key is being aware and paying attention to the product or service. Simple enough, yet we all can be distracted from what is right in front of us.

I’ll give you an example, maybe it’ll make a little more sense.

If you watch a commercial on TV, that 30secs, a min, longer even, you are either engaged or not. Think back to when you were engaged. I’m sure many commercials may come back to the super bowl memories, but your favorite commercials you remember. What made them memorable? Take it a step further. Do you remember the company the commercial was for? I can think of a few, but this post isn’t about favorite commercials so I won’t go into those, though that would be a fun post.

Paying attention is the key component to transitioning from consumer to producer.
You may not know anything about advertising, marketing, or video production but you know what made you laugh, made you think, made you ask why, motivated a reaction, or simply captured your attention.

In today’s world, the most valuable currency is someone’s attention. If you have it for 5 mins you’re already ahead of most businesses. Which is why “word of mouth” marketing will forever be the best form of marketing (which I will discuss in a later post), because it happens organically, and often times there is repeat business or a customer that stays a client, because of how they found out about you.

Your reviews of a product or service makes you a commodity in the eyes of a business/producer, and you have the ability to treat it as such. You can either become an asset to that company or you can become the competition. In any scenario you are aiding production.

Again this post is unlike my usual posts that deal with business acumen and application and instead deals with a simple mind shift to understand the value that you hold in everyday life, in business, in your relationships, wherever. If you approach things with confidence and openness, you understand the value you have even to your mentors, your parents, to the restaurant down the street.

Hope this post meant something to you...
