Your Desire VS Your Needs

in #mindset3 years ago

In life, there are always decisions for you to decide upon. And those decisions always involved your wants and your needs.

But never have I realized until now that, we tend to do things that we want to do, we tend to choose according to our desire and our emotions. Never once had we taken a moment to consider the effects and the consequences of our actions, never had we once considered doing the things that need to be done more than things that we want to do.

You may argue that it's not the truth, I'll help open up your eyes right now.

  • After school, have you ever chosen to do homework first instead of playing?

  • As a teenager, have you ever chosen to earn some pocket money doing odd jobs instead of just hanging out with friends?

  • What about starting to think about your future, saving, and investing for your early retirement instead of partying as a young adult?

  • How about buying a $50 bag/wallet with $950 left inside instead of a $950 brand name bag/wallet with only $50 left inside?

I'm stating this because I know that, no one can be perfect. While most of the time, we tend to prefer desire over needs. I believe there'll be at least once in our life that we have chosen our needs.

It just goes to prove that while we're all selfish, it's not to the extent of losing our reasoning and letting our emotions control us. That we are still capable of being the master of our mind.

I've always heard people saying that rich people always take advantage of the poor. But the truth is they take advantage of our emotions.

  • The commoner lets emotions control them, while the rich control their emotions.

  • The commoner goes crazy over brand name luxuries, while the rich build brand name items and sell them.

  • The commoners rush to buy everything on sale, while the rich buy only things they need and tend to use them long-term.

  • The commoners follow every trend there is, while the rich build trends for others to follow.

This is the difference between those who live life day by day and those who live life making important decisions. While most are sleeping their *ss off on weekends, some are on their side hustle hoping to change their life, even if it's a little.

How you're living is the cause of your decision from 5 years ago, and how you'll be living your life 5 years later will be reflected on your decisions right now. You should start doing what you need to do to be able to live the life you want 5 years later.

I've spied on a few profiles on Hive and found out that people who earn a few hundred dollars per post, most of them started around 4-5 years ago. And I believe their starting point isn't as easy as you may think it is. They may post every day for a year with little to no rewards at first, but slowly earn more as they accumulate more followers and reputations.

Another thing is, I believe that only start doing what you need isn't enough, you got to be consistent in what you do. But don't do it blindly, learn to analyze what's wrong with your work, and what you need to improve.

I've made both kinds of decisions countless times. As a child, sometimes I chose to play, sometimes I chose to do my homework first. As a teenager, I've chosen both to hang out with my friends and work off jobs earning pocket money. I've basically lived life doing things I want to and things that need to be done.

My Conclusion

There is a lot more to experience in life, living life having too much fun wouldn't build meaning and value to your value. But living life only working is kinda pointless, like black and white without any other colors. Do things in moderation, build your value and meanings in life, have fun once in a while, but not excessively.

At the end of the day, it's your decision how you want your life in the finishing line.

Criticism is accepted, feel free to do so.
