Video: Microbes in Pond Water
There are numerous microbes that have been identified by scientists and even more that are awaiting to be named. Protozoans and Small Animals can be easily found in pond water and viewed under a microscope using a 40x lens. The following video was shot using a phase contrast microscope of a sample of pond water in Wisconsin during the month of December.
Some of these little guys have flagella they use to scoot around. Nematodes are the little worms you can see slithering across the screen. Paramecium may be some of the little round guys who move using cilia. There may be a few euglena that eat and contain chlorophyll like a plant. Rotifers, hypotrich, diatoms, algaes, ciliates, and anisonema may also be found here.
