Sunday in Miami

Ayer por primera vez en diez años visité una de las atracciones turísticas de Miami como lo es “Vizcaya, museo y jardines” (Vizcaya, museun & gardens). Es una mansión en diez acres que un hombre de negocios norteamericano llamado James Deering (1859-1925) se hizo construir como casa de invierno frente a la bahía de Biscayne, al sur de Florida. Para ello contrató a F. Burrall Hoffman quien fue el arquitecto de los edificios, a Diego Suarez como diseñador de los jardines, y a Paul Chalfin como director artístico del proyecto integral. Aunque la casa principal se construyó entre 1914 y 1916, los jardines, una mezcla de diseños franceses e italianos, fueron completados en 1922 junto a la obra completa. Para la decoración de las 34 habitaciones y de la casa en general Deering compró mobiliario de época en Europa, principalmente de Italia y Estados Unidos, así como obras de arte europeo y de norteamérica. El condado Miami-Dade adquirió la propiedad en 1952 y la convirtió en museo. Hoy en día es considerado Monumento Histórico Nacional y un museo acreditado.
Para mí resulta una mezcla de estilos a veces muy lejanos entre sí, pero finalmente es interesante encontrar un lugar como este en una ciudad que se asocia a las playas y al “shoping”. Es un paseo que vale la pena pero si lo visita en tiempo de verano es recomendable llevar ropa fresca.

Yesterday for the first time in ten years I visited one of the tourist attractions in Miami such as "Vizcaya, museum and gardens" (Vizcaya, museun & gardens). It is a mansion on ten acres that an American businessman named James Deering (1859-1925) had himself built as a winter home in front of Biscayne Bay, in southern Florida. For this he hired F. Burrall Hoffman who was the architect of the buildings, Diego Suarez as the designer of the gardens, and Paul Chalfin as artistic director of the integral project. Although the main house was built between 1914 and 1916, the gardens, a mixture of French and Italian designs, were completed in 1922 along with the complete work. For the decoration of the 34 rooms and the house in general, Deering bought period furniture in Europe, mainly from Italy and the United States, as well as works of European and North American art. Miami-Dade County acquired the property in 1952 and converted it into a museum. Nowadays it is considered a National Historical Monument and an accredited museum.
For me it is a mixture of styles sometimes very far from each other, but finally it is interesting to find a place like this in a city that is associated with beaches and shoping. It is a worthwhile walk but if you visit it in summer time it is advisable to bring fresh clothes.
