Reptiles of Himalayas (Asian cobra/Spectacled Cobra/Indian Cobra)
Scientific Name - Naga naga
The Asian Cobra is one of the most poisonous snakes in India , their venom is neurotoxic which means it acts on the Central Nervous System (CNS) and is the first most death causing snake species in India. It is also called as Binocellate Cobra because of the presence of two false eyes (Ocelli) on it hood .
The Asian cobra is seen in Indian mythology and culture as an embodiment of the divine , and is often seen with snake charmers. It is protected the Indian Wildlife protection act 1972.
This one is an adult cobra about 5 feet (maximum) long, photographed in a wheat field.
