San Cristobal De Las Casas. Yes, it's a mouthful. It's also the name of a really cool town in the Mexican state of Chiapas. In a previous post we talked about Mexico's magic towns or "Pueblos Mágicos." San Cristobal is yet another Pueblo Mágico and was dubbed "The most magical of all the magic towns" by the former president of Mexico.

What's so special about it? Aside from the booming coffee and amber industries, it is extremely culturally-rich. Tourists from all over the globe are attracted to this place where the natives live harmoniously-integrated with the rest of the population. It's not just the natives who've been around forever, either. Even the Mexican history of San Cris goes back hundreds of years.

There are still many Mayans who live and work here and many of them only speak their native tongue. If you visit the Mayan markets, you'll see some of the most colorful market stands you've ever seen with their pastel-colored handmade keychains and dolls. Be careful about taking pictures, though. Some of the natives have a strong dislike of photos.
