Steem Total Value Powered Up - $29 million - August 27, 2023
This is next in my series of posts reviewing the amount and value of powered up STEEM on the Steem blockchain. For previous posts, see the end of this entry.

- Week over week, the number of powered up STEEM increased by about 111 thousand SP, or 0.06%.
- Over the course of the week, we saw five daily increases and four new highs in the number of staked STEEM. The current streak of daily new highs stands at four.
- The modeled value of powered-up (staked) STEEM lost ground against all comparison tokens, except for ETH.
- Changes ranged from -4% against TRX to +0.4% against ETH.
- Compared to the January 1, 2023 baseline, the modeled value has lost ground against BTC, ETH, and TRX. It has gained ground against LTC, SBD, and USD.
- This week's completed powerdowns were reported at 577K, which is an increase of about 13% from last week's 512K.
- We saw 2,696 new accounts created - down from 3,081 last week.
- Net migrations of account classifications showed 1 less orca, 5 more dolphins, 15 fewer minnows, and 11 more redfish.
- Unusually high numbers of account creations continued from Saturday and Sunday in last week's report until Wednesday in this week's report.
- The long-term decline in the number of minnows continued, with new lows registered on Thursday, Friday, and today (Sunday).

Daily Changes

VESTED STEEM
Today's downloaded value was 177,182,219, which was up by about 111K STEEM, or slightly less than 1/10% from last week's observed value. The graph appears to have basically flattened out in recent weeks.
Modeled value of powered-up STEEM in terms of USD
In terms of USD, today's value at download time - about 28 1/2 million - remains higher than the December 30, 2022 low of $23,718,335.58. It declined by about $320 thousand, or 1%, during the week.
Modeled value of powered-up STEEM in terms of Tron (TRX)
Powered-up STEEM declined by about 16 million against TRX or roughly 4%. This value reached a new low of 363,942,337 on August 23 (Wednesday), and bounced back a little bit to 368,857,272 with today's download. This new low isn't all bad news, however, since many authors and voters accumulate TRX rewards along with STEEM POWER.
Modeled value of powered-up STEEM in terms of Steem Dollars
Powered-up STEEM dropped by about 266 thousand SBDs, roughly 2%, during the last week. The current value has now reverted to the long term mean of about 12.5 million.
Modeled value of powered-up STEEM as a percentage of Steem's market cap
With today's observed value of 40.08% the graph dipped below 40% on August 24, but was basically flat for another week. We have now seen 3 days above 40%; 510 consecutive days above 39%; 574 consecutive days above 37%; 701 consecutive days above 35%; and 764 straight days above 1/3.
*As previously reported, the big drop on December 4, 2022 was due to a correction in the value that Coingecko is getting for its circulating supply. Numbers before December 4, 2022 were based on an artificially low supply measurement.
Modeled value of powered-up STEEM in terms of bitcoin (BTC)
Powered-up STEEM declined by about 8 BTC, or 3/4%.
Modeled value of powered-up STEEM in terms of Ethereum
Powered-up STEEM increased by about 65 ETH or 1/3% in the last seven days. The value stands about 3,300 ETH above its June, 2021 low.
Modeled value of powered-up STEEM in terms of LTC
The weekly change for powered-up STEEM against LTC was a decrease of about 8,000 LTC, or about 14/5%. As with SBDs, the current value appears has reverted to its long term mean, near 465K LTC.
Daily Powerdown Activity
Here is graph with data from steemdb.io to show daily completed and pending powerdown activity. The graph shows 577K in completed powerdowns last week and 520 pending (both measured from Sunday through Saturday[GMT time zone]). This represents a potential decrease in powerdowns by about 10% or more.
The horizontal lines are the average values for completed (blue) and pending (cyan) powerdowns, and the yellow line is a 28 day moving average of completed powerdowns. "Pending" numbers now come from the Steemit API, not from steemdb.io.

The total value of power up sounds good and I wish the progress of steem all the time. Right now I'm unable to contributing by powering up as a smallest part of this platform but I just hope, I'll be able to power up again from the second week of September. I need to have a restart. Thanks again for these data and it contain a lots of information that can help many. Stay blessed!
The volatility of the price helps and quite the opposite, I don't think it's feasible to wait for it to stabilize, so contributing to the POWER UP makes me feel good
Thanks for the analysis. There has been an increase in the amount of power ups compared to the last weeks. this is a good development. More would of course be better.
