You will be able to witness one of the most spectacular meteor showers tonight
From the 11th until the 13th of August the Earth will experience this year's greatest meteor shower, named the Perseid meteor shower.
Peaking on the 12th of August, there will be upwards of 80 meteors burning up in our atmosphere per hour, unfortunately, we will have a full moon at the same time, thus only half of the meteors will be visible.
It does not matter where you are on the planet, you should expect to see a 'falling star' every 1 to 2 minutes.
According to NASA, you should allow your eyes about 45 minutes to adjust to the night, by lying on your back and looking straight up.
The meteors burn up about 80km above the Earth's surface after reaching a temperature of about 5,500 Celsius (10,000 Fahrenheit).
Extra: The Perseid meteor showwer is named after the Perseus star constellation, which appears to be the origin of the shower.
This is a really cool post! Makes me wish I lived somewhere that I could get a good view of the sky without all of the man-made light interface. It was like that in 29 Palms CA when I was a child. You could see every star in the night sky! Voted and resteemed!!
