Splitting Minds
Schizophrenia is a mental health condition where you become distorted from reality, hallucinate (hear voices), however, I can describe it more like being awake during a dream, or nightmare. It’s been a recognised condition for around 100 years, although has probably befriended many humans throughout history.
My thoughts on schizophrenia; We used to live surrounded by our family, neighbours, in our small towns, or further back in time in our tribes, not a moment did we get to be truly alone, I think schizophrenia would have found it hard to manifest in such situations. We now live isolated from reality, with our headphones on to cut out the traffic, looking at our phones, communicating with people more through an intermediary device than spoken word. We are this person at work, then this person at home.
Madness, it can be a warm blanket on a cold night, it can be surrounding yourself with friends and family and feeling loved and understood. But with madness, it’s not real. The interactions and comfort are imagined.
I fear we’ll have more cases of severe schizophrenia in the coming decade. We are not connecting more and more, technology is mis-used and will take many trials and errors to integrate seamlessly and for the better into our society, our current life styles are a breeding ground for minds to be split.
